What are good questions to ask to get to know someone really well?

Something I read:
Don't interrogate them, but try to get them to open up about themselves. Casually ask about their job, their family and friends. What kinds of things do they do in their free time? Discuss hobbies, what kinds of music/movies/books they prefer. Be honest about yourself and what you enjoy in life. Note these things: Do they complain a lot? Have they changed a lot of jobs/moved frequently over the years? Do they say rude things about their parents or ex boy/girl friends or wifes/husbands? Any of these could be a warning sign.
What questions would you use or suggest?

Personally I’ve always hated the 50 question BS and felt it was a waste of time… reason, anyone can give a short answer… I’d rather have a real conversation even if it’s about what color the bird poop was that hit my windshield today… IMO it is a better way of seeing how you each think and click than the dear ole 50 ways to leave your lover questions… but that could even be a good conversation starter …
but as they saw to each his own...

ask them a couple of nice, but simple things related to something they wrote in their profile because - they always write and complain about how people only look at the pics and never read their profile
no wait - that's what i do, write something nice, simple and relating to something they've written in their profile and that's got me ..... 
sorry, maybe try a different strategy - i'm out

The 50 questions thing reminds me of a final reveiw of some contractually structured agreement. or better yet a checklist of the contents of a box before shipping it off to siberia. That is probably some of the most insensitive communication I have ever seen. Anytime I encounter someone who has a bunch a questions I generally ask them "are you a cop or are you writing a book" They usually attempt to be witty and reply that they are writing a book. Lol.... thats when i tell them to leave this chapter out.
You can pretty much learn about people and their lives by just leaving them to their own vices and securities as well as insecurities. Just have fun with people and things will surface in an unpressured manner.

If you find yourself in a situation that you feel you have to ask someone if they are prejudice? I suggest you dont! Just run! Run as fast as you can. Because, this is an old fool. See a new fool just doesnt know any better. An old fool is the one who continues to bump their head everytime they walk through the same doorway refusing to duck.

It is my nature to ask alot of questions in a normal conversation... But then I'm a curious person...always learning. But it is rude to run down a bunch of questions that make that person feel like you are running a background check on them!..... 
If you spend any amount of time with someone you will get to know them fairly well.....and understand what their MO is.......I would say at least enough to know if you want to spend any further time with them or not....
Now.....who would like an application?

I have never asked a lot of questions as talk is cheap.I tend to watch people.It is more telling to see how they handle everyday situations. I do listen to their words but believe their actions!
