For some reason when a woman puts on a formal dress, it is common to put their hair up. Why is this? As much as I enjoy a womans neck , I love to see their long hair as well. Just about every wedding I have ever been to, women have to have their done which means " UP ". Please shed some light on this if you can......

Yeah I don't like it either.
BTW- less and less young women are even sporting long hair. I am one of the last in my area.

Why do men feel the need to have long hair in a ponytail, and the women are cutting it all off?

I LOVE a guy with a ponytail
...and when a woman puts on a formal dress, she wants to feel elegant. It's kind of hard to get that total look and feeling with long hair hanging down, flying every which way, or with the "every day" style.
A woman might feel comfortable wearing sneakers everyday, but when she dresses up "formally", only heels will do.
(A generalization, I know, but that's it -- basically -- in a nutshell)

With younger men I think it's a way of expressing originality and standing out from the crowds because ponytails on men are still relatively unusual.
With older men, I think it's the same as with younger men. Plus, if they're losing their hair they might see a ponytail as a way of keeping the strands of hair in place over the bald patch.

.... and to show those dangly earrings ....
When I do put my hair up, it's usually just kinda grabbed & clipped & it turns out looking OK ... Then later all I have to do is take out the clip & shake it loose & it still looks OK.

Then later all I have to do is take out the clip & shake it loose & it still looks OK. Pardon me, but that sounds sexy as hell.......
And what about the guys who's hair has reseeded to the middle of their head, and continue to have a very gray ponytail, always wear a hat, so when/if they ever go out in a tux, most people are totally shocked at how bald he really is?
I guess a few guys can pull it off, but it is just weird to see a 50-60 year old man in a ponytail. But, then again, I don't find men attractive regardless, so what the hell do I know?
So, making your long hair look as short as possible =elegant? Or, long hair is not elegant. See, this is why I asked..... Sometimes I'm very thankful I'm a bald man.

It all depends on 'how you put it up.'
A French Pleat not only looks formal, but can look very sexy, depending on whether the lady is wearing a suit or more elegant evening dress.

Does any man know what " A French Pleat " is without using google? Or is it just me?
I think it is wonderful women do so many different things to look beautiful, but I'm sad to say for the most part, we do not notice the details, or have any idea what they are called.
But, we notice the entire " look ", but sadly never the details.

Anyway -
I always leave my hair down. Mostly cos I don't care about all that stupid bullshit.

He may still wear a hat with a tux. But we all have things about us that others can't easily see....so as long as he isn't trying to hide the truth, it wouldn't shock me!
My last LTR, he was very bald on top, with a ponytail. He always wore a do-rag. It was just who he was-he wasn't trying to hide anything....
As far as me dressing up, my hair may be down or up, depending on the dress, and he weather!

For me, it's generally down, unless I'm busy or walking, then I want it up. Easiest solution when going out is for the man to just say how he likes it. Most women are more than happy to accommodate if he has a preference.
