C'mon I know a lot of you out there have been in this scenario at least once (or more). You're typically easy to converse with, witty, easy going then around comes someone who (in a good way) makes you nervous, gives you butterflies...all of a sudden you go blank and can't think of one intelligent thing to say or worse (afraid of seeming cold and uninterested) you start babbling on about absolutely nothing! How do the rest of you handle this problem?

Gosh......I wouldnt know what to say...bell. I usually have a list of questions to ask that I am curious about.....and know exactly what I want to say. So have never quite been in that situation. I never usually get butterflies with any man......mainly because one never knows which way they are going to swing....like if you appeal to them or not....one never knows.....right off. Tho there was a professional man who wanted to meet me once......very very intellectual type of person.....got a bit worried there.....wondering if I could hold my own.....around him. But never agreed to meet him.....because he was married....even tho it would have been innocent.....I didnt want to take any chances. He moved to another state with his family......so didnt get to meet up. But conversation was good in net chat. He was more a serious person who knew lots about everything. So that was one time I did get a bit worried...and probably would have got a little nervous......but no matter what...I always stay cool. If I feel uncomfortable......I always make it a plan to have to dash somewhere and dont have much time...to spare....LOL. But then it was only friendship. But dont know how I would handle it......if I was really DEAD KEEN....which I very rarely am....LOL
All I can suggest is next time have a list of questions to ask......or tons of topics to talk about.......maybe asking about his family.....work etc....might be a good place to start. This probably isnt much of a help....LOL. Maybe someone else may have better comments than I............LOL

NOPE.....nothing like that!. Oh yeah.....there was this one time I did.....when I was about 17.......really liked this guy who dated a distant friend.....they broke up.......and he took me for a coffee.....a dark cafe bar down in a cellar....romantic music and all that.. I went to pieces a little there......because he was always all over her like a rash.....a real touchy feely person.....couldnt stand the thought of him having hands all over me....on every occasion.....I got turned off him when he kept referring to me as a *sex kitten*......when all I did was have coffee with him. So avoided him from then on...........LOL. But in Adult years......I have never felt like that........lol. Maybe its old age....kicking in...

Okay, Marylou, 17?! I'm "slightly" older than that...
Or should I call you "sex kitten"? I love that one...

I give what I call "crack head answers" when butterflies take over.
Crack heads babble, and most of the time its incoherent babble. Everything might be incoherent that they say, but for some reason, the question that comes after is always crystal clear......
"Yeah n I tol Mike n dem bout tha whatchamacallit, n dey tol me to git da thingamabobber n I did, so I wen down to whatsaplace n did da dangone thing. You know what I'm saying? How the hell do you answer the crack head? One to two word answers. "Yeah", "I hear you" "Say what", "Nah, you kidding"
I find it works in plenty of other situations too. Like when the inlaws are babbling on about your business.
When butterflies take over, get out that one clear sentence that allows you to go into crack head answering mode. Something like "So tell me about your day." or "Tell me more about[place any given topic here].
After that, a few polite "Really", or "That's interesting", or even a quick Wow!" does fine.
Works for me

Laughing, and cringing, as I remember being 17 too...a guy I worked with was walking towards me with the most incredibly handsome man I'd ever seen - I knew if I talked to him I'd make a total fool of myself so I made a beeline for the ladies room....turned out it was his brother and yes, he was playing matchmaker (coworker was no slouch either though)...just as well, that would have been way too much for me to deal with at that point in my life!

At the end of our first day, my fiance was trying to ask me out again and was getting all tongue-tied. He was stumbling over all his words. He finally just said, "What I'm trying to ask is pleeeeeeeeeease go out with me again." It was so cute. I couldn't help but say yes. I thought it was so cute that he couldn't get the words out smoothly. It showed that he was emotionally invested in it and not just handing me a line or something.

......sounds cute to me also dooney.......I like it when guys are like that. Years ago....I knew a guy who would ring me on the phone and talk for an hour or more......yet he would never ask me out. I liked him.....mainly as friend.......but wanted to go out for something to do.....but he never asked me. When I eventually asked him why he never asked me out.....he said *I didnt think a peson like you would go out with someone like me*. I didnt like him a whole lot.....before that.......but after that I did.....a bit...........LOL....maybe it was my ego that got a little boosted.......lol

.......yeah it was a little sad....felt sorry for him....think he had a bit of low self esteem there......on the other hand....maybe its good he didnt......it wouldnt have gone any further than one date..........unless it was just a continued friendship thing. I started seeing someone else after that........and was in a r/ship for a year........and seeing I never go backwards......we kind'v drifted apart......lol
