Online creates an artificial intimacy...
I've been online for way too many years, met too many people who swore we'd always be friends... they are all gone...
I don't bother to meet anyone any more... it all fades away ...
Online friends, with the insulation of never meeting is the best course...

I think that online friends ( or romances for that matter) serve a certain special purpose that you don't get in offline relationships.
The people you know online have at least some level of anonymity. You don't really know them and they don't know you. You can be whoever you want them to think you are and they can be the same because neither of you know who the other really is.
That serves a unique purpose. It allows you to talk about things you might not normally talk about with someone in real life, try out different fantasies you might be too afraid to actually try and have an ear to listen when no one in your real life might want to listen (or you don't want to tell them something). And there are very few consequences because you don’t have to actually deal with them in real life.
You turn off the computer and poof... they are gone.

I agree with you DR...you have the opportunity to see what they really want to share. If it's a deal breaker, you're not committed to anything...if not...keep exploring. Of course, there are those that will purposely deceive others, but, if you are truly looking for a relationship, you can find out soooo much more online than you can in person sometimes

As a man, I avoid anything with the word alter in it. You just know it can't be good.
