IMNSHO, a lover is more than just a friend, that you are intimate with, but haven't necessarily made a committment.
There was a question posted in the forums once... how many lovers have you had... I answered, just one...
LTYP sums up our relationship quite nicely... we have been lovers for over 15 years now, he is the love of my life... but never has any committment been made... we can go a year or more without seeing each other and it's like there has never been any space between us
We both have had relationships come and go over the years and when either of us is in a relationship we don't see each other, but in our hearts, we always know that we are there for one other

These days, a word can have many meanings, each dependent on the context in which it is used and the individual using it.
In days past, the word lover didn't carry positive connotations for me. I used it loosely, not understanding the volumes of heartfelt passion such a small word could express.
My opinion has been greatly altered, however, for I have been shown that a lover is one who loves and seeks to understand not only what the loved one says, or does, but where they come from and where they wish to go -and then supports endeavors to get there regardless of their own feelings -for the cherished one's happiness comes first and is of the utmost importance.
A lover is one who cares enough to do 'little things' that the loved one deems special, or romantic, and also appreciates when the loved one does little things to reciprocate; for when a loved one is taken for granted they are boxed into a position of certain servitude and unhappiness from not feeling validated.
A lover is one who makes the loved one feel special and important.-in other words, a lover makes another feel loved.

Well lover takes it a step farther than sex partner .. a lover would be some one who made you feel loved and you in return made them feel loved and you don't want the night to end and you can't wait to get back together again.
