So, you're browsing the profiles and run across one you like. You decide to make "first contact"...(sounds like a Star Trek show, doesn't it? hehe). What is it you usually write? Do you compliment their picture? Mention that you like some of the same things that they mentioned? I had some Moron on another dating site (whose name shall remain anonymous) simply write "if you want to talk text me on my cell at xxx-xxx-xxxx). No hello, my name is? No how are ya. Nothing. This annoys me!

I usually comment on something in their profile. At least it proves I actually read it! If I get answers with email addys/phone numbers I usually tell them I'd rather talk on here (MD) for a while to get to know them. Then we'll go on to the other. I'd rather meet someone I've seen in the forums anyway.

I had viewed WSOR's profile a couple of times, only because I knew he was in my area. I finally emailed him on MD because I figured anyone who laid it all out in their profile (including their little quirks) couldn't be all bad. In the email I commented on what he had written in his profile, & also mentioned the cute dog in one of his pictures. That got the ball rolling to more emails & eventually talking on the phone. And here we are today, planning an eventual future together!

The ones that send the lame emails are an automatic 'delete'.

I wrote a blog about something that happened that hurt me very deeply. Many wrote to me about it, but one man continued to write and after a few emails the subject was changed to more personal conversation. We have talked for quite a few months now and will meet for the first time this month.

I'm with Sign...I tell them I'd rather stay on MD for a bit, if they never contact me again-they weren't that interested.

Be very very careful giving out your cell number to strangers. It easy to rip you off just using your cell number. A near and dear friend just got floored last year 1200.00 cell phone bill in one month. Crafty them Nigerians.

I haven't responded to a profile for a few years. When I did it was within the "operational area" and the criteria was, on the surface at the least, a "Must Do" ...OK, There was in fact one exception where she wasn't within the "operational area"

To actually compliment their picture(s) if in fact it's truly sexsational as well as comments per what they indicated within their profile would be a great way to open. The second e-mail always included as it current does for those that respond to my listing my cell.

Each of us have our own level of comfort to deal with. The important thing is to contact others, get out there and actually meet if that is what one desires to do. Respect, openness as well as honesty is what it's all about.

If you "click", it shouldn't be a lot of hard work.
A casual, "I noticed your profile" email and you'll know pretty quickly if it's comfortable or not.

but that is where the problem lies...

so many people have preconceived notions on if they should answer a 1st contact or not...

and I usually do not make a 2nd "1st contact" effort...

I never make a first response any more. There aren't are very few on here from my area. Of course that doesn't stop the Chinese women from contacting me though.

I have tried a variety of ways to say "Hi' to someone. Rarely leads to more conversation though.
