Group Dating: Good Idea?

Okay. Someone has been recently trying to get me to try "group dating", or "social dating" as another friend called it. Anyway, I eventually buckled, as I usually do. They got me to sign up for a service that promotes this (http://www.mixtt.com if anyone is curious) and it looks like I'm on my way. Seems like it might be fun, right? Sharing an evening with people with similar interests and playing one's luck with a larger pool. Better than one-on-one blind dating. At least, that's my take... but I have never gone on a date of this kind before, and so I was wondering if anyone here had and would be willing to dish out some advice on what exactly to expect from the experience? Thanks in advance.

I have a friend who dates almost exclusively in this manner. Just treat it like going out with a group of friends. Like any date, keep your expectations in check and you should have a good time!

I guess it depends on what you want. I do not want to go out with a group of friends if I am dating. I want to go out with a lady I am attracted to and get to know her, without distractions. No offense intended here, but if a person is so insecure that they only want to date in a group, there will probably be no connections made. Group dating is what we did in high school when we were too shy to ask someone out. My experience has taught me that a woman likes a man who does not need props or friends along to make a buffer between himself and her. That only distances you from one another.
Now if I have already been seeing someone and we are something of an item, that is different. In that context it is great to go out with friends and have fun together. This is just my opinion. Different strokes for different folks.
