Married, Not married, Men, Women, Overweight, Skinny, Picture taken yesterday, Picture taken ten years ago, ... it all happens here. Sucks and it's sad that this site was intended for people to find a potential life partner, and instead the majority of stories we hear are like this.
I hear some people say, don't trust anyone, etc, etc, ... I hear others say you have to trust until or if proven wrong. I say follow your gut instinct, it usually works best. We sometimes pass over those gut feelings because we don't want to believe in what we are thinking/feeling. (not in your case, just in general)
We need to look deeper into our own self and trust ourselves more, when doing this it's my belief that if we "listen" to "us", the outcome of many situations just like this may end up differently.
Keep on moving ahead, don't let this allow you to distrust.

No offense meant by my reply Aeromuse. Your point is perfectly valid.
I don’t date many women I meet online, but when I do have the occasion to, I always do a reality check. I ask if I look exactly like my pictures and I seem as I describe myself. If I am persuaded something is off, I consider changing it.
I met someone last week and was told I look exactly like my pics, so, for better or for worse, there is no deception on my part. Can’t speak for others except to say that I have seen a few among womens‘ profiles that are obvious streatches. So it is not strictly a male phenomena.

I've been blown away by what's shown up as opposed to the probably 20 year old picture they've posted. Deception is NOT a good way to start a relationship!

Not to try to move the topic away from the male bashing, but I’d say that deception in an online dating profile is a SAD way to start a relationship.
Think about it.
What does a person who is portraying themselves as something they are not stand to gain from that behavior?
Momentary adulation from a stranger for something they are not?
Companionship from afar with endless online chatting never meeting in person to have a real relationship?
A fantasy that maybe the person on the other end will somehow magically overlook the deception after having “fallen in love“ with them (or what they thought they were) before they even meet?
All of those goals seem unbearably lonely and desperate to me.

When my divorce was final I had been alone for a year. I went to a paid dating site and actually met five women. Every one was completely different than their profiles and all the pictures were either years old or photoshopped to the point I couldnt' recognize them. What's the use? Pick your best photo, one that makes you look great and you'll be sure to disappoint anyone you meet. I'm not that into looks, but I'm big into honesty. If I like you, it's because I like YOU, not a construct.
After five tries I gave up. I like MD for the blogs and forums. If I meet someone, fine, but Im not betting on it. It's really pretty simple. If he just wants sex he'll tip his hand quickly. He won't have the patience to get to know you and it'll be obvious he really doesn't want to. Take it slow and make sure. And if you really suspect him of being dishonest trust your instincts.

I'm happy to say I look just like the pictures I have posted. While at the airport in Indy waiting for Duvvy, Pali and Lucky recognized me coming down the escalator. I was with Duvvy and Rita, and Pali and Lucky were waiting for Desert Rock. Neither group knew the other was at the airport!
I did date a man whose pic was 10 years old. But that was many years back when digital cameras were not so easy to get and use. I'm still not sure how to weed out the lies though. I think you have to try to communicate for a while for that.

I've gotten to the point of asking to chat with men on webcam...not only do I get to see what he REALLY looks like, but often find out (very quickly) that he is a total perv!!! lol I'm amazed at the lies on both parts. This pic was taken in May...like, last month!!! I have way too much going on in my life to lie to anyone..as others have said, what's the point...
Funny about the wedding ring (not funny really)...that's the first place I look on a pic or in person...if there is a ring in the pic (or a white ring where it recently lived) ...there is usually a story to go with it...then you know the pic is either recent and the other person is married or OLD and the person is married...lol
