1.For me, "exotic" means someone very different from you in physical appearance and culture, and I believe there is a biological component to this attraction as it insures a stronger genetic gene pool. Obviously there are many elements that attract us, cerebral connection, spiritual compatibility, and many would claim they are of higher importance to physical attraction, but strictly speaking for a moment on a physical level, I do believe there is a biological necessity for diversity as represented in the attraction to people we would call “exotic”, I think our brains are wired this way out of biological necessity.
2.And then you have the Aryan race nut cases that propose that inter mixing of the cultures is mixing with inferior races and mongrels, and this is causing the downfall of our society, you can clearly see by what I wrote that I believe the exact opposite of this.
3. Then you have the contemporary belief as written in a few studies and books, that we tend to be attracted to people that look most like ourselves.
What do you think?

Its funny....I just posted some new pics of my sweetie and I somewhere else and someone commented about how we seemed to have dressed the same (jeans, white ts and cowboy boots) and look very much alike......We fit together like two puzzle pieces that finally found one another....

I believe it differs in certain societies. I will use Japan and Nordic societies as examples. If you look at Japanese anime, you will see that the women that are considered "sexy" or used in sex roles are almost always shaped like white women with fuller busts, larger butts, long, luscious blond hair, and light eyes (in no way am i saying that white women can not come with darker hair, i am always the last one to argue this). Being that I was an anime fan for a very long time, I can attest to this and it has been discussed widely among my group of friends. It is something that occurs very often. We are not supposed to openly say this because it is not politically correct to do so, but the people of Japan are quite homogeneous, so it is understandable that the women and men would look outside the men and women in their country (the women do this too...I have heard from a lot of people that the Asian women seek American men with blond hair and blue eyes, generally) and seek the complete opposite.
My boyfriend said that the first thing he noticed about me was my dark hair, dark eyes, darker skin, and fuller figure. He has also stated that he loves Southern European women and if I traveled to his country I would get so many guys because I look different. He said that both women and men are tired of fair haired, light eyed, pale skinned people because they are around that all the time.
I think that it differs, honestly, based on the society. If a society is quite homogeneous, I think that the people will seek something exotic. But if a society is a "melting pot" like ours, I don't know if that comes into play as much.

I have always been very much attracted to the dark hair and dark eyed look. But even so, I married a blue eyed blond haired man. And of course thought he was the most handsome man to ever walk the face of the earth.

Kind of proves my point, we are genetically hardwired for biological diversity, and if we are put in an environment without it, we seek it. Kind of the “anti” Aryan philosophy.

Little green alien women, now that is genetic diversity.
And just between you and me, I hear they are hot to trot. But be forwarned, don’t ever turn your back on one or you just might find a probe up your butt.

I think it's going to depend on the person...they say we all marry our mothers as far as personality types go, but women tend to look for men much like their fathers if there was a good relationship. My ex was a clone of my mother as far as personality goes, but did look something like my father.
This time around I'm going for the gold - my SO's personality is much like my father's, dad was a blue eyed blond, so's my SO (okay, grey-haired now). Dad's birthday was July 2nd, SO's birthday is July 3rd.
So sue me, I have an Electra complex...I've always said I wanted a guy just like the guy that married dear old mom!!
P.S. the love of my life came from a town about 40 miles from the one my family came from in Europe...from the day we met it was as though we'd known each other forever...but maybe I'm the exception that proves the genetic diversity rule!

I'm attracted to similar to me, except taller...and of the opposite sex! I prefer lighter hair and eyes.

I'm not usually attracted to the blond, blue-eyed look. I see that everyday in the mirror. I had married a tall, blue-eyed, dark haired man. Oh he hit the nail on the head as far as physicality goes.

Yeah I'm the same way, I’m blue eyed and blond/brown hair, but I have always tended to be more attracted to brunets. Not written in stone, but a general preference, basically I don’t want a female version of me.
Now my younger brother has the hots for Drew Barrymore, and she looks like a female version of him.
That’s his taste, but for me, I don’t get it. .

It's funny, I always wanted that dark hair for myself. I haven't done it yet, but I've always played around with going dark. I just don't think I could get away with it.

I'm (obviously) brown haired/brown eyed...I am usually attracted to blue eyes...dark skin and hair...However, my ex looked very similar to me...same coloring, same height, same hair and eyes...in fact, we were asked more than a few times if we were brother and sister!!! Though I prefer blue eyes and dark hair/skin, it doesn't really matter to me...I'm all about the brain, personality, etc.

I do think the old 'Opposites attract' is true And cultural difference can cause quite some differences .
Attraction for me is only partly looks, the biggest part is character & brains and how you interact.

I agree, Cathy, I think this is the initial attraction. What maintains it, however has got to be a wonderful mind.

She might be a hottie, but what good is that if you two can't stand each other.

I have seen attraction grow or attraction wane when getting to know a woman , so I know for me the mind connection is the biggest determinate.
