I agree. I just got engaged and I gave my fiance a Platinum Engagement ring. She could not have been more satisfied. Although she wears white gold on a daily basis, I figured an engagement ring must be more deserving in Platinum. Nothing beats platinum when it comes to rarity, genuineness, and overall value. Go with Platinum, the ladies love it!

I rarely wear jewelry. I would want someone who would come home at night, and actually want to tell me how the day went, who was willing to share his life with me. Jewelry, furs, and all that, won't keep you warm at night, or give you a sense of togetherness.

That is true..My fiance would have been happy even if I tied a string of yarn around her finger. However, it's what the engagement ring represents. By giving her a platinum engagement ring that represents the finest of metals, in reality you are giving her a piece of herself. You are telling her that the ring is only a mere spec of what she really means to you. That is how I see Engagement...

And I do agree about the importance of diamonds on the ring. Diamonds do vary in carat, cut, color, and clarity (the 4 C's of diamonds). I've even heard that the personality can be linked to the diamond cut one prefers, I thought that was interesting. That is another reason why I chose platinum, given that the diamonds in the engagement ring were worth so much I could not afford my fiance to lose it or have it fall out. Platinum holds precious gems securely. I rather pay a bit more upfront than suffer later on. "A stitch in time, may save nine."
