For you to let yourself go and be totally honest with someone you like? I mean show the real you...The manic slightly insane, morbid procrastinating moron that someone like myself might be at times...
...It's hard for me...I keep this front up at all times...Well not on MD...But other places.

not difficult for me at all......as I feel that it weeds out the ones who are hoping that I am someone I am not....

I usually don't care...However I notice if I am with my regular group of friends and either a new friend enters or someone who is attractive to me...I try to be on my best behaviour...
However I usually break this cycle by drinking

For you to let yourself go and be totally honest with someone you like? I mean show the real you. It's not hard a bit. I am me where ever I go. It's easier that way.

I guess you have two choices If you like the real you, then put the real you out there proudly.
Based on your best sense of right and wrong, if there are things in yourself that you don't like and you wouldn't like if you saw them in another person, then it is time for self introspection and time to make some changes.

I am never just me around anyone else, and it takes me a long time to get to the point where I trust someone enough to just be myself. I try to find out what they might like about me, and then put that foot forward.... I am not sure I even know who I am anymore, except someone who tries too hard to please everyone around me, and then being very unsatisfied with myself. (Which is why I am currently alone, and will probably stay that way, safer for me, and safer for anyone subjected to me. And I am all right with that, doesn't bother me a lick anymore. There are much worse things then being alone.. I know that very well indeed.

Katie just be yourself and not worry about everyone else. Eventually you'll find someone who wants the real you.

That Mister Rodgers song is in my head...
It's You I Like It's not the things you wear It's not the way you do your hair, but it's You, I like. Not the things that hide you Not your toys They're just beside you.... So easy for children, but as adults we forget that being ourselves is enough. How much to share? That depends on how much you trust that person with. In real life as well as on the internet.

Being honest is easy, dealing with folks with screwed up pasts is the hard part. No matter what you do, you are lying to them. Sad, but true.

...There remains a difference between being yourself and opening up your total inner self to just anyone, because they just think they deserve to be in there.
...If a potential, just like I do in business, I want to fail as fast as possible. In other words, I absolutely want them to see anything and everything, as quickly as possible, so it is not a year or more down the road and they find something that is a deal breaker.
...If reciprocated, then perfect and if after a reasonable period of time, there is still a sense of evasiveness, that in itself is a deal breaker for me.

For me it's sort of a coin flip. Most of the time I'm just myself & to hell with the consequences. But I've found at times I do scale it back a little.
I don't think it's an intentional thing. More of a unconsicous, defenisve, reflex thing. I think that it comes from "who I am" being used to hurt me in the past.
