I wonder what exactly kind of personality is usually described as "laid-back". I cannot help to imagine lazy , overweight slacker who's spending his life on the couch , staffing his mouth with junk-food , hogging remote and scratching his balls .

Well actually...we don't "scratch" them ...We kind of "pinch and roll" to relieve the itching

I think "laidback" describes the person's calmness in situations, no screaming or beating on others.
I know people with "laidback" attitudes that eat healthy and get out and about. They aren't fat at ALL.

Most commonly "laid-back" is used as an euphemism for lack of ambition, cap . It's someone who's not active and goal-oriented .

i always picture a pothead who is like "YEAH MAN" and eats a lot of chips for no reason. yano...jason castro type.
i think "down to earth" is a better term to use.
"The term laid back is often used to describe a person who has a mild and easy-going personality. It can also be used to describe a place or situation (i.e. a laid-back atmosphere) that is quiet, relaxed or casual. "
