There are just too many fake profiles and flat out psychos around to not at least pay a little attention to what someone writes.

Guilty: the majority of my winks are based solely on picture with no reading of profile. However, that's what a wink is, isn't it? Saying that someone is pretty cute? The profiles that I do read, and like, recieve an email and I skip the goofy wink thingy.

I always read the profile before showing interest - if for no other reason than to check it against my deal-breakers.

I read it if I think she's cute and I'd wanna get to know her...  ...but if yer not in her league then you don't get a response...i should know...  ...thats why I stopped emailing....  ...whats the point when yer attracted to a 7 but yer below a 5....  ...not much you can do...

In the 3 weeks I've been here, I have gotten a few of those "no-idea-why-I'm-winking" winks. Then, if we do chat, a question like, "So, what do you do for a living?" comes up. That can be a little frustrating.
Typically I search the area, go through the results with pictures being top attraction. If the PIC grabs my attention  , then I go through the profile, and sometimes, all of whatever is there... blogs, posts, friends (this alone can take a while). I have missed or skipped over things in a profile before too, which can be a little embarrassing later on.
Then if it seems close enough, I take the plunge and write an e-mail. If she isn't close enough for me to wanna risk the e-mail(and perhaps the rejection!LOL), but still in range somehow, winks away. But out of about so many profiles, I've only winked about 5 or 6 times.
Not much of a winker in real life either. She wouldn't know anyway with me wearing those darn glasses all the time.

I ask them....Umm Did you Really read my Profile?,,, I always get, "yea of course", ...but I can tell when the are going back to actually read it!....
And Yes I do read Profiles!

*sigh* Seems so many of those who read the profiles before contacting or winking...are now gone...and with no success story posted. Think they could have forgotten to tell about sucess?
I always read profiles before contacting or wnking too, unless I am contacting strictly based on a forum post.

I conducted an experiment to better understand which pictures of MD members piqued my brother's interest. Not surprising, he chose the women who were exposing their bodies and/or in provocative positions. He showed no interest in their profiles whatsoever.
I realize that, generally speaking, men are more 'visual' than women, and I understand chemistry between two people is important, however...my question is: Do men really not think it through that maybe a partner who is publically provocative may not be a wise choice in a partner? Or are they the men who are purely looking for sex?
Or am I just a prude???

I don't know about more visual, there are a lot of ladies on here that comment about shirtless men. Myself whether women look provocative or not, that doesn;t have any bearing whether i contact a lady or not, Of course i know i am old fashion in a lot of ways, but looks aren;t forever, but the soul is there for life.

My experince has been that very few actually read the profile. My profile states I am not looking and I don't reply to winks. Yet every day I have several winks in my box. Go figure.

Painter: You're so right....looks aren't good or bad....just what appeals to US. What's that book??? "He Just Ain't That Into You"....well, we may just not be that into someone....not because they are awful or ugly...just not our type. Of course, what do I know?

I read the profile AFTER I look at her pictures (if I like the pictures and she is not too young).
I would always read her profile before sending an email - I don’t send very many emails - maybe four or so this year so far on MD.

When i get an e-mail before reading what he has to say i click on the profile and scroll down to the distance.If he lives 1000 miles from me then i know he didn`t read my profile so why should i read his e-mail.

hey hey hey, I think you're ,maybe,making a mistake here. s/he could be the one you're looking for in disguise. just reading the mail wouldn't hurt but its your right anyway
I seldom wink at people not to talk of writing but when I do, I take a glance at the profile at least......you could wink at your ex or at someone you hate their guts or even at your mom without knowing...well leaving out profile fakers or impostors
