I think I sometimes dear getting close to women. And so I sabotage the relationship out of that fear.
I had a girlfriend like that once too.

I think we have all known someone wth this fear at one point or another. I think you can only be so patient and gentle and loving for so long and then they are just going to have to find a way to be a tad vulnerable.
I can't imagine what heartache put those walls up for them but there has to be two people in a realtionship for it to be successful.

No, I don't fear it the least little bit. BUT ...because so many seem intimidated by intimacy, I tend to clam up sometimes. I wear my heart on my sleeve, pretty much. Been that way all my life. I'm bare bones honest and upfront and more or less an open book. I am that way because I think it's a "natural" way to be. But not everyone thinks that way.
What I've learned throughout my life about being afraid of opening up to people is that we are all pretty much the same. Oh, sure, differences compare from one person to the next, but I guarantee you there is at least ONE (and probably many many more) who suffers the same fears I do, has the same bad habits, practices similar routines, suffers with the same or similar pain I do, or pleasure and happiness. We all "alike," give or take.
I think people who fear intimacy (being open and honest with each other) are afraid of being "exposed" and, therefore, hurt. Well, being that way can certainly hurt you..as I've found out (because so few people want to admit they're "less than perfect." That terrifies them, I think, because it makes us too vulnerable that we, too, suffer alike. To me, sharing that common ground is what makes intimacy possible and, perhaps more so, even necessary.
