A little late to be asking that don't you think?
I'm gonna leave it to the nurses to correct me, however my understanding is with the correct respiratory treatment and continual taking care of oneself, ie, keeping the weight down, and proper exercise, thereby not making the heart and lungs work harder than necessary as well as keeping them strong, asthma has been successfully lived with for years and years.

I have asthma, though mine is mostly set off by conditional changes, and chemical odors. I carry an inhaler just in case, but rarely have to use it. My Mom is not as fortunate....she does have to take meds each day, preventative inhalants. But, even at 72, she has more energy than most half her age.

Merchitown, I'm aware of all that but thanks al the same for the feedback though.
My biggest worry is that if, and this is a huge if, we happen to tie the knot, is she going to be real liability? am I gonna wake up someday as a widower?
ok maybe I went overboad here.
anyone on here ever date someone with asthma? wanna shed some light on this , please? thanks upfront!

Asthma, in the absence of other comorbid conditions, has not been shown to affect life expectancy, Wills. It is much more a quality of life issue. If, for instance, high humidity levels are one of her triggers, you may discover a weekend at the beach is not high on her list of enjoyable activities, unless she has premedicated. If cold air is a trigger, she may decide that skiing is something best watched on television than participated in. If certain allergens are strong triggers for her, that walk in the woods to see the trees budding or leaves turning may leave her sucking on an inhaler. She may be much more comfortable in a home with uncarpeted floors and without pets than otherwise. It is usually later in life, when other health problems begin to manifest themselves, that asthma management and the stress of asthma attacks become more of a factor.

Nightow, I heartily appreciate your smart and logical input. she knows all that to her finger tips but sometimes she doesn't give a damn. that especially drives me nuts. inspite of her condition and her not living up to her expectations, I still think she's the most wondeful person I've ever been with.

Asthma really isn't that big of a deal...It's not like AIDS, I'm sure you can learn to live with it.

I am going to say that you might want to tell her that since she means so much to you, she needs to start talking care of herself.
I have no problem dating someone with certain health issues, but if they won't do what needs to be done to remain as healthy as they can, they I"m afraid they would be out the door.
Health issues are one thing, ignoring with improves them is just plain stupid.

My biggest worry is that if, and this is a huge if, we happen to tie the knot, is she going to be real liability? am I gonna wake up someday as a widower? You know Wills, you could still wake up as a widower, you just never know. If she is following her asthma management plan then she probably is more likely to be hit by a bus than die due to her asthma.
I have asthma myself. My two triggers are mold and certain perfumes and colognes. I follow my asthma management plan, take my singulair daily and use my inhaler when needed, which isn't all that often. Of course I have to be proactive with it too, especially since my main trigger is scents. When I'm meeting someone new I make sure I let them know I can't tolerate colognes, perfumes and after-shaves. When I'm going into a public situation where I know there may be a lot of people wearing scents I can usually hang on the fringes or pre-medicate with a steroidal inhaler.
You're certainly right not to kid yourself about it, as is she, it is a silent killer. It can sneak up on you, that's why it's important to follow your management plan.
