(I'm sure this subject has been covered before but I'm doing it again. )

In my travels through MatchDoctor profiles I have noticed:

Men looking for "beautiful ... hot ... good body .. sexy ...etc"
Women looking for " handsome ... good body ... good looking ...etc"
I look at the profile. ... Read those *requirements* & ponder...

Many physically beautiful people don't consider themselves as such.

Will you be happy when you meet that *beautiful* person & be satisfied with just the physical beauty?

Are you really that shallow?

I know chemistry & physical attraction play a major role ...
But when it is a big part of the profile .. The wants/needs ...

I look at pictures here in the forums & see a lot of physical beauty.
And yet...
I know many/most of you probably wouldn't describe yourselves with those words.

Then there's the beautiful, sexy picture of someone whose posts
reveal a nasty, cruel nature.

So if you see those words in a profile ...

Do you consider yourself beautiful enough to wink/email?
Do you immediately write him/her off as a shallow idiot?
Thoughts?

In all honesty, when I see where a woman has said she is looking for someone "handsome," "good looking," etc., I automatically move on. Not because I feel she is shallow, but because my appearance is so far from being what most people consider "attractive" or "handsome," I just figure it's better not to bother waiting for the "eww!"

My appearance is pleasant enough but no way would I ever consider myself beautiful or hot. So I pass by those profiles. I'm looking for an average guy who wants a down to earth loving woman. Where is he??

And NO I like your looks!

I don't consider myself physically attractive. So I wouldn't expect that out of a guy I hooked up with.

I want decent looking, smart and fun.

Are humans really that shallow? All proof points to yes. Judging on appearance alone can be called shallow, but if that is the case, who isn't shallow?

For instance, I know I'm ugly. It's not self-decimation or anything like that. I had my picture rated. You can't argue with a 2.2 out of 10.

But even knowing this, I had a blind date a few weeks ago and when I went to meet her, the woman had stubble. No, not a hair or two on her chin, full blown stubble! Now I ask, am I shallow for being disgusted? The point is, no matter how non-shallow someone claims to be, I guarantee we all have our limits.

If I see a profile that states that, I move on. While I don't think I'm ugly, I'm certainly not beautiful enough to meet the requirements of a person who feels compelled to write that.

And I'm sure they would be too shallow for me.

K, I keep telling you, you are NOT ugly. Trust me on this one.

Beauty IS in the eyes of the beholder. Whomever you are attracted to you are naturally going to find them to be beautiful, handsome, "hot" sexy etc... One person may find a person to be attractive while another looking at the same person may be repulsed. Initial attraction is most often visual and based on how one looks to us. Is it shallow to be a product of human nature?

Once we begin to know the person better is the real determiner of whether they appear more beautiful/handsome or we are finding them diminished in our eyes, hearts and minds.

So if you see those words in a profile ...

Do you consider yourself beautiful enough to wink/email?
Do you immediately write him/her off as a shallow idiot?

I know that some men find me beautiful ~ although you're right, I don't see myself quite that way, like I said, eyes of the beholder. Who is to say they wouldn't find me attractive? If enough of the rest of their profile convinced me that I am attracted to them then I would opt to take the chance to send a wink/email and would not write them off as a shallow idiot.

You never know.

Now, that's the most stupid "requirement" ever...
Those posting such kind of requirement are permanently blocking themselves from beautiful people contacting them, since really beautiful people don't usually consider themselves beautiful. The only responses will be - from those who CONSIDER themselves "beautiful" - and those are in most cases are not beautiful at all and in 100% cases not intelligent either.... I recall one guy , who, while on dinner date with me , said : "Every time I look in the mirror , I say to myself : What a good-looking son-of -a- gun I am !" . It took all my willpower to keep my composure. Though the guy was certainly not hard to look at , this comment of his exposed his low IQ - and therefore, made him totally unattractive .

Newlife says a lot of the same things I think on this topic.

Personally whenever I see or hear someone refer to themselves as good-looking, handsome, attractive, beautiful...whatever...I typically just turn around & go in another direction. I am of the opinion that those who say that about themselves are just a bit arrogant & arrogance is not an attractive trait. Besides, it's not for us to decide if we are attractive, it is up to those who see us, as well as those who know us or get to know us.

Which brings me to comment on Nightowl's post....
my appearance is so far from being what most people consider "attractive" or "handsome," I just figure it's better not to bother waiting for the "eww!"
Really...you need to stop saying that about yourself, too. So you are not the cookie cutter, Chippendale dancer sorta guy...so what...that does not keep you from being an attractive person at all. Not every gal is attracted to those cookie cutter guys & to many of us, it's not just the cover that makes us look at a person.

Further to having said that....I've had plenty of men refer to me in a derogatory manner because of my stature. I've not always been a big girl. When I was younger...until my mid-30s I had a knock-out figure that lots of men were attracted to. I'm still the same person inside that I was then. But one thing is for sure, when or if I have a new man in my life, I will know that he likes/loves me for me...not how I'm packaged.

...Oh, physical beauty is seemingly but a dimmer switch away.

...People have all types of preferences and for the most part, I am rather certain they know what they are, or are not, physically attracted to... which if you think about it, has been tested and tried all the way to the Supreme Court as their right to do so.

...For certain and it does not matter what the exterior appears as, everyone is attracted by how someone makes them feel and if someone is negative, constantly whining or bitching, only a masochist is going to be attracted.

...As well, self confidence creates natural attraction and that self confidence can be derived from being the best someone can be and not making excuses. False self confidence is easily exposed as arrogance, often mean, without compassion or empathy and a result of emotional insecurity.

...Nevertheless, the most attractive people are those that are for the most part, selfless, those that make others feel good and do not seem too even know how beautiful they really are... but still take subtle pride in taking care of their mind, body and soul; the total package.
