This is a condition where you set up your profile in such a way to find a dating partner and somehow people who read and respond to your ad go way off base with their ideas about you.
Example: Let's say that you are a female who put down, as one of your interests, that you enjoy watching football.
So a guy responds to your profile in this manner..... he only zeros in on the football part of your profile and writes to you asking you about football statistics from games that happened forty years ago, or if you remember what college these atheletes were drafted from?
The guy appears to be way off base and approaching la-la land by only asking you only questions about football, and nothing about your life, job, or other personal interests.
Would you see this guy as having "dating dyslexia"? Rainman syndrome?
How would you deal with a man or woman who wrote to you in this manner? Would you try to set them back on track? Ignore them?
Remember that they aren't doing it intentionally, it's just that they are oblivious and are not looking at "The Whole You".
Has anyone had a similar experience?

It is probably just ice breaker conversation. I enjoy watching football (but am not a couch potato when it's on!) but couldn't give a LOT of background. Similarily, he may have seen Julia Child on tv once, but can't make a souffle himself. I think it's just conversation, but one would have to be careful how far they pushed it.
If it's REALLY important that a potential partner know that stuff, then it will sure weed them out.
(My son proposed to his wife on Cubs opening day, because she is just as big a fan. Otherwise, he would have proposed a different day!)

I liked the Rainman syndrome analogy.
Yea, it's like they're so focused on that one thing, that they're hoping you can somehow share their obsessiveness. Unless you had as strong an interest as them in that one area, it would be best to stay away from them. They would want you to be something that you're not. So, ignore.

I think it's just someone trying to start a conversation on a mutual interest.

One could always add this little note to their profiles ....
Clairvoyants & Savants need not apply
Maybe it's mnemonic minded people?
What am I thinking? They'd just overlook that as usual and focus in on something else.
Edited for tidbits of more info.

^ I want a pickle loving woman But I don't know if I want my pickle in a jar sitting on top of a shelf.
I better think that through a little more carefully before I speak.

But I don't know if I want my pickle in a jar sitting on top of a shelf. ..a friend of mine actuallly made me a black penis out of stocking material and put it in a jar with pickling spice...what a hoot at a party

It happens quite often - when a guy posts something that is not true or is not true ANYMORE about him , just to get interest . More often than not this one lie turns out to be the ONLY attraction of his profile - and then he gets upset when women lose interest if he tries to stir them away from discussing this particular trait/interest of his...
