I am no longer with him but for almost 10 years he was a major controlling influence in my life. He is 57 yrs old and has committed 5 very serious felonies in his life (not counting a misdemeanor or two) and served about fourteen years in prison.
He also is a convicted drug dealer and he himself has a more than 30 yr IV heroin habit but he swears he only smokes 'chronic' pot to keep the heroin urges at bay.
He has been convicted of prison escape and kidnapping charges as he and his buddy held people up at gunpoint to force others to empty their accounts at ATMs as he and his cohort were on the run (but later captured).
This is all true as did i a background check on him but i felt that as this all happened in his twenties and thirties then maybe he has changed. His last felony was committed five years ago as trafficking reduced to possession of a lesser amount than was confiscated.
He still hangs out with old dealer and drug users but he says that are just friends yet he is highly secretive about his whereabouts and doesn't want to be contacted by phone.
I myself have never been in trouble with the law nor have a drug habit and i still don't know why he shows up on my doorstep as i never give him money but his family wants nothing to with him and i guess he still pops up occasionally as we at least have a history together....but it always on his terms and he is ready to book out the front door if i don't comply with what he wants or wants to do.
Do you think he is still engaging in criminal activity?

gee i was kind of hoping that someone would give me some sound advice...even tho' we are no longer together should i even let him in the front door on occasion because i have known him for almost 10 yrs.
he so secretive all the time and claims he is never near a phone to call before he drops by and is incensed when i ask him and when he leaves he never says he will call me or even goodbye. In case you are wondering i do not sleep with nor give him money so i honestly don't know why he still drops by. Anything i say or do seems to set him off and his family doesn't really have anything to do with him.
he has a part time minimum wage job but never has money but he always has
a constant supply of 'chronic' and he has Hep C too.

well, it doesn't sound like he is willing to change; he probably doesn't like to answer his phune because he is afraid its bill collecters calling; sounds like a pretty shady character who doesn't want to tell you his whereabouts because he is doing stuff he knows you won't approve of; you definetly don't want to sleep with him if he has hep c...
I'd get him out of my life asap, move if you have to...ever been to ND?

Wow.
Look honey, any time a man feels the need to keep secrets from his partner you shouldn't be letting him anywhere near you. Those secrets mean that he either knows that you would leave him if you knew or he is mightily ashamed. Either way, do you want a man who still doesn't have his collective shit together?
That and those secrets are kind of a power thing. I dated a guy like that for a short time. Sleazy stuff on the side and pretending he was a different person with me.
Trash.
It's what a person like that is and that is exactly where you need to put them.

Kidnapping? Prison break? Heroin? Robbery? Convicted drug dealer?
Seems he didn't learn after how many different arrests....and some just can't be trusted.
But you say you aren't with him anymore, so cut your ties and move on. You deserve better.
(Some were just trying to lighten the mood a bit-it happens in many threads, nothing personal)
