I know the subject of good first dates has been explored. But I'd like to hear about experiences with bad ideas.

I've had two that I regretted. The first one was a coffee shop. Caffeine jitters + first date nerves = dead end. The other was dinner and a movie. The dinner was nice--we talked the whole time. Then we sat by each other's side in the theater, and said almost nothing for more than two hours. Plus, the movie was a romantic comedy, which is a genre I just can't stand.

I personally think eating on the first day is bad. Who can eat with all the nerves going? I know I left alot of food on my plate on my last one.

Movie? Ya, I have to agree with you on that. To sit and not talk?

I did, painter. I even put my hand on her thigh (which made her giggle and move it off). But it's not the same as eye contact and conversation. I like eye contact.

I agree...NO MOVIE!

Talking and eye-contact, YES! (hehehe, much more condusive to mutual hand-on-thigh )

Def!

I still think coffee, or lunch is the best. If you are one to get the jitters, steer clear of the coffee. I don't really get nervous, so I don't find that sort of thing to be a problem.

Maybe go sit in a park, but be sure there are people nearby. For women, we have to be sure to meet in place where we are not going to be alone with the person. It is sad to have to think this way, but as many of us have seen here at MD, there are too many freaks out there.

That explains why she blocked me, when I offered to pick her up at the airport and take her back to my apartment for wine, chocolate and role play.

Another lesson learned...

Ughh,,,
Don't want to be unkind, but unless both parties are into it: A Nascar race is really a horrible first date. 100,000 sweating, beer drinking, screaming, shirtless..... never mind. It just didn't work for me.

Movies are great for folks that have nothing to talk about....How bout dinner, chat, and a game of bowling...? This is especially good if you are both lousy at bowling !!!
