When reading profiles, I see the word "DOM" used. Would men please explain what that means because to me I see this as an abbrievation for Dominantcy. I run from profiles that have that word thinking they are controlling.
Please enlighten me if I am wrong on my perception of the word.

I find 'DOM' men are controlling in everything of a relationship. From sex to whats for dinner..
Kinda like the Mafia type men that treated their women like robots or puppets.

I have never heard of dominantcy, but the term dom, in the context that you have found it, more than likely is associated with the whole domination and submission lifestyle.
Women can also be a dom, as in the term dominatrix.
Do a Google search for "domination and submission" and be sure to use the quotation marks.
Or just go here - (copy & paste this link into your browser)

I find 'DOM' men are controlling in everything of a relationship. From sex to whats for dinner. This can be true in SOME cases, but often can refer to only one aspect of someone's life. For instance, a passive man in day to day life can be very dominant in the bedroom, and the opposite can also be true.

Thanks "Tim", I reading it now. I understand the terms, just don't see how this Domination/Submission could work in a relationship as long term. To me its more a fairy tale type situaton. Not a reality for people are to be equals in decisions in a relationship. Thats my point of view anyways.

I think Tim might be right. It's either 'Dominant', or 'Dominatrix'.

Ya Classy Tim is right. I been reading the website he pasted. I copy/pasted this part:
A male dominant is often called a dom; a female, a domme or dominatrix.

~gulp~ Oh geez, I didn't realize you really didn't know what it meant.
Well happy readin'...these things help us put things in perspective, about how "normal" (and ~giggle~ conventional) most of us are.

I was given a necktie years ago with "DOM" in small capital letters printed all over it. You turn the tie to look at the underside, and there's a Playboy-type pic screen printed on the side that is NOT exposed to the public.
In that case, DOM was supposed to stand for
DIRTY OLD MAN.....
....not sure, but I think my MOTHER gave it to me!

I wasn't you, Angel, I was me!
Honest, I thought that awareness of that lifestyle (or isolated to bedroom activity) was pretty much known, generally. I was just surprised that you asked it as a question...
I've got to admit that reading profiles has been exceptionally enlightening, with LOTS of things. Then again, I'm a "search junkie" and tend to get side-tracked whenever I run across anything unusual or that's new. (I couldn't believe how many people mention SBDM, etc...as well as some silly abbreviated 'standard' personality-type rating, among other 'coded' things)
[I just realized something...I hope the government isn't tracking my esoteric search patterns. If so, I'll finally wind up in handcuffs...and not in the bedroom ]
