Smoking seems to be a major dividing line these days.
I smoke. I find it amazing how many women will meet me just to tell me they want a non-smoker, wasting my time and theirs.
It says in my profile that I smoke. Can't they read?

Smoking is a dealbreaker for me. I've been a non-smoker for eight years - still crave a cigarette once in a while. Can't be around a smoker and I don't answer winks or emails from smokers - or if I do, it's to politely tell them what I said above. But I agree with you Greystone - people should read what it says in the ad before wasting your time.

I smoke but want to quit. Maybe I'll find a woman with a big enough whip to help me quit. Quitting drinking was easy compared to breaking the nicotine addiction.

As Greystone put it...
"I smoke. I find it amazing how many women will meet me just to tell me they want a non-smoker,"
As a fellow smoker, I am also put off by the folks in the "Church of the Nonsmoker", So many contacts who think they can convert the heathen smoker...
I smoke, I choose to, I'm not quitting for anyone, I know it's bad for me in the long term, I don't care....
yes I have a bad attitude, its from listening to people who believe they know how I should live....

greystone, do they think they can perhaps change you?
its amazing how we all complete profiles for others to totally ignore. i'm a non-smoker because i'm allergic (initially, i was too cheap to buy them when chocolate was better). even i think society has gone too far with the non-smoking facilities, etc. we can't all be in the same building with some proper ventilation?
just as well, greystone. if they'd try and change you about the smoking, then something else would be next like your hair cut. or your bike --
can i have it?

I'm with you Greystone!! It's right there for all the world to see that I smoke. If I receive a wink or e-mail from a guy that doesn't smoke, my next stop is to look to see what he says about his "match". If it says any thing other than they're interested in a non-smoker, I take them for their word. If they then say something, I tell them they need to update their profile....and then light up another one!!! If their match says Non-Smoker, I don't even bother to respond....cause you're right, they're illiterate and not for me anyway!!!
A few of my friends tell people that tell us that smoking takes years off our lives, we tell them we work(ed) in a nursing home, we've seen the last years and don't want to live them!!!

Smoking would be more acceptable by non-smokers if it only killed the people that smoked. Unfortunately that's not the case...

Well, smoking isn't the only thing that kills non-participaters.......alcohol, drugs and those dang child molesters. I just feel that everyone should worry about those as much as cigarettes. They, unlike alcohol and drugs, are at least not mind altering!!
Enough said....this started out as why do non-smokers initiate something then either complain or want to change someone.

I never get liver cancer because a guy sitting next to me was drinking a martini. I could get lung cancer because the guy sitting next to me is smoking a cigarette. Big difference.
It's just as amazing how someone can have the fact they are a non-smoker and are not interested in smokers and still smokers contact them...I guess it works both ways...

I gain 10 pounds on the spot if a fat slob next to me is eating a super-extra-humangous size burger and fries. My cholesterol rises and I don't even wanna know what happens to my BP and triglycerides.
Those things'll kill you much faster than a pack or two of Marlboros. And yet nobody bans eating greasy stuff in public places.
I'll have to write to Bloomberg.

ok one comment, the place i work at .........has more cancer causing things in the air than cig smoke, as a member of the health and safety committee at one time, had the air quality tested and according to standards was fine.....and yet those qualities were and are i bet 10 if not higher than cig smoke...........
i still say that the air quality that is sooooo pooor in this area and others are caused by other factors than cig smoking, not to say that cig smoking is not good for you.......
but I will say , Everything in Moderation...........
i do not smoke in the house........so I have cut down the amount i smoke large , huge as a matter of fact.........
ok i could say a whole lot more, but i think i will get off this soap box for awhile..........
just once though i wish all the 'do gooders' and i am not picking on anyone by any means.........but man..........
do you have to throw your views on to mine...........can you not see both sides, do we just have to see yours.......
ok that is jmho

The way I see it is that you fall in love with someone regardless. My last girlfriend didn't smoke and didn't want me to smoke but we had bigger fish to fry. I did stop smoking in my house and still smoke on the porch.
I would have quit if we had more time together.

Doesn't that knife cut both ways?
The excuses about something else being worse than smoking, does that mean we should forgive rapists because murderers are worse? How can yo possibly try and justify a bad habit by pointing to a worse habit? Come on.....You can have your soap box back now...;)
I'm just as put out by smokers contacting me as the smokers are that get contacted by non-smokers.
