I used to only smoke when I drink, but now that I have pretty much stop drinking expect for maybe a beer at a concert I really don't have a need to smoke. I dated a guy once that was a heavy smoker, and at the time I enjoyed it but now I pretty much am turned off by it.

I smoke but want to quit. Maybe I'll find a woman with a big enough whip to help me quit. Quitting drinking was easy compared to breaking the nicotine addiction.
I have a very large whip to make you do anything Watch out guys Im on a roll in here today

I know that four glasses increases your chances of waking up in a strange bed.
Pete did you have to chew your other arm off when you did that? j/k

The Dutch government, which provides cradle to grave healthcare, did a study to determine how much money they could save by forcing everyone to quit smoking.
They instead found that healthcare costs were 5% lower for smokers than for non-smokers, for one very simple and obvious reason: Smokers die sooner, thus avoiding very expensive old age healthcare costs. And this doesn't even take into account savings in social security.
The government should be paying us to smoke instead of robbing us blind. Tobacco taxes are theft and nothing else.

As Greystone put it...
"I smoke. I find it amazing how many women will meet me just to tell me they want a non-smoker,"
As a fellow smoker, I am also put off by the folks in the "Church of the Nonsmoker", So many contacts who think they can convert the heathen smoker...
I smoke, I choose to, I'm not quitting for anyone, I know it's bad for me in the long term, I don't care....
yes I have a bad attitude, its from listening to people who believe they know how I should live....
Hey I agree 100%
This is also a Tie Breaker for me.. I SMOKE..
If you can't handle it SORRY you may have missed out on the best thing in your life ...
On the other hand Maybe Not
My Life ! ! My Death ! ! My Choice how I live it in between.
Now having said that
I try to be considerate of my Non Smokeing Companions
There can be compromises..
For instance .. Stop at every rest stop on a trip please
amd I will refain from smokeing in your car..
Time for Kissy Pooh..
Uhhh Excuse Me .. Hold that thought
Did you remember to bring the mouth wash ???

I agree. I smoke-- therefore it is a part of me. Don't like it ---- take a hike! I don't like to smell women that think they need to wear a 1/2 bottle perfume just to go shopping. UGH! that s*** gives me a major headache. But it is their choice to wear it like it is my choice to smoke.

Had my last cigarette on 1/4/89 at 12 noon eastern time. It was always a standing joke with my friends and family that I'd have an extra 5-10 minutes of life, cuz when the grim reaper showed up, I'd tell him he'd have to wait till I finished my cigarette...
Hypnotism worked for me, but the suggestion that I liked the best was that other people's smoking wouldn't bother me, and it never has. JMHO, but I'd rather enjoy my smoking friends, taking my chances with their smoking than missing out on time with them. Matter of fact, thinking about it, most of my friends smoke...hmmm, wonder what that means...

it was like something between licking an ashtray and licking the street! i still have nightmares.
i imagine that two smokers kissing can pull it off.

licking an ashtray n licking the street.
when i first started my job, they'd b smoking inside when that was strictkly verboten. it was gross n i promptly coughed up a lung. then ppl started fighting 2 go outside 2 have a cig. it'd been something if non-smokers took breaks like that. it finally got reduced, but it is 2 much 4 me.
i hate how it lingers on clothes, hair, etc., then it makes its way 2 me. glad i'm leaving.

Amazing this topic generated so many responses. Guess what they say about smoking being a flashpoint issue with some is true.
I’ve never smoked and personally don’t want to go out with a smoker. If a smoker feels that’s being discriminatory, so be it.
If we’re talking strictly bad habits here, if I was an alcoholic and women didn’t want to go out with me because of my drinking, I’d have no right to be defensive, correct? Ok, you say how on earth can I compare drinking with smoking, but if that's your logic, smoking wouldn’t be considered a “good” habit, would it?
I’ve read most of this thread's comments and summersquall’s views have been the most pungent and intelligent, and I agree with him 100%...sorry smokers.

I have quit smoking for 12 years and still crave it. If I met someone who smoked I wouldn't mind just as long he doesn't smoke in the house and around my daughter because she has asthma. Other than that if he needed help to wuit I would do everything I could to help him.

I agree with the comments on, there are alot worse things people can do then smoke. I smoke because I want to, and no one can get me to quit but myself. I personally dont like anyone smoking while I am eating, I wont smoke if someone else is eating, or in peoples homes who dont, even if they tell me it is ok because all of their friends do....well I'm not everyone. I dont throw my butts out the car window, or leave them behind when hiking, camping or at a park, I dont want to see them on the ground anymore than the next person.
I do hate the whole fundie attitude that some non-smokers have though, yes I know that second hand smoke is harmful to others..BUT
I drink only occassionally, and second hand drinking is harmful too.
My daughter hates that I smoke, but she repeats my favorite line to people as well..why? because its the simple truth, well..my truth at least.....SEE, I can smoke 6 cigarettes, get in my car and drive somewhere without killing an innocent family in the process.
What pisses me off the most is all the ads on not smoking & talk to your kids. What ever happened to the dont drink & drive ads...I'm sorry but it cost less to by a 6-pack of beer then it does a pack of cigs...and my second hand smoke may be bad for you, but you can always go somewhere else...try avoided the next drunk driving idiot you come across, and good luck to you on that.

That started when Phillip Morris got their asses sued off by the smokers and the government. It was a multi billion dollar law suit and it stated that they have to put the ads out to children etc. I don't really feel sorry for them though because Phillip Morris also owns Miller Brewery and they also own Kraft Foods. They can afford it.

Think again. Such things are a cost of doing business. Costs of doing business go into the prices of products, and you buy the products. When big business gets screwed it is really the consumer who is getting screwed.

You got that right, but people just dont see it. First we say, its okay because "big tobacco" is "evil" for selling a product that people want to buy. (I am an ex smoker, and hate smoke by the way)Then this opens the door to attack breweries (who are already hard hit)soda bottlers, McDonalds, Burger King, Hershey's Chocolate, auto mfg's, ATV mfg's, oil companies and anybody else who becomes politically correct for the government to extort money from at the dunb consumer's expense. Its funny how the government makes more money on a gallon of gas than an oil company, but they are all too happy to point the finger at oil company profits while ignoring gov't profits on something they do nothing to produce. The dumb consumer pays these taxes and for these lawsuits, while idiotically thinking it comes out of company profits. You cant tax or sue your way to the individual responsibility of the consumer. God bless the smokers, but I choose not to date one.

I was married to a man that smoked from the time he was 12 until he died on December 6, 2002 from emphysema(at age 61)
The last 8 years of our marriage was spent watching him struggle to breathe every single day...even on oxygen he still smoked..such was the hold the cigs had on him.. so much so that up until his last few days in ICU he was still craving a smoke.
My 21 year old daughter smokes...watched her daddy struggle for his last breath and yet, that wasnt enough incentive to make her want to quit. It's all personal choice.. he made his choice to die from smoking, she is pregnant and still smokes.. so we all choose our own path.
My path was to quit smoking 19 years ago..and I have never regretted it..but I neither preach at people about their smoking or allow it to stop me from being with a truly wonderful man now.. and yes...he may end up one day like my husband.. but I cant live my life worried about who will die and wont..so I just take it one day at a time and love the one I'm with.
It's about respect for others.. no matter what your habits are..do what you wish..just respect those around you. Simple concept, really
