Just about 2 years ago, my father died....
I have so many memories of him... but, after he died, my siblings and I went through all the photos, slides, and stuff that my father had taken over the years... The numbers were stunning! But, as we went through the pictures, and the slides, my father had taken pictures of just about EVERY special even in the family... it was incredible... We laughed, we cried, it was awesome. At this point, my oldest brother is taking all of the slides and he and his wife are going to save them to CD-ROMS for everyone... that way we will always have the photos, and the memories that go with them...

As I posted in a different thread about "changes", the reason I now live in FL instead of NC anymore is because I recently have inherited my parent's home. This house is filled with childhood memories from when we first moved in it Jan. '59 until I got married in '67 and moved out. My oldest child took her first un-aided steps in this house one Christmas Day. My first dog is buried in the back yard. The Magnolia tree that my little sister (recently deceased) and me used to play leap frog over is still growing along the side of the house, although it must be over 30 ft tall now! Furniture that belonged to my parents, grandparents, even great-grandparents occupy every room and they all have a story to tell. The tall 3-corner cupboard that belonged to my dad's grandmother...the middle drawer used to hold the homemade sugar cookies and when my dad was a little boy would go to for those wonderful sweet treats. The old pump organ that my great-grandmother used to play before losing both legs due to diabetes and was changed into a beautiful cupboard with glass doors for her so she could still enjoy it in a different functional way. I could go on and on.....yes, this house has many memories for me and my children, after all, this was my kid's "Gramma's house", and someday it will belong to them again.

when I got sick a couple years ago, I stopped dating, instead I spend the majority of my free time with my sisters and their kids... sports, recitals, Ice skating gymnastics, etc...
I may not have kids of my own, but at least I can leave them the memory, that I cared...
and that is immortality

One can be a great 'dad' grumblebear without actually being a biological father.
You have a father's heart and sense of humor.
