Mo raised an interesting point in the 'holding out for perfection' thread....He posed the question as to whether people who might have passed him by if he weighed 400 lbs would become interested if he lost half his weight and had an extreme makeover...
Let's assume you've lost the excess and are now at your ideal weight...with all the attendant sags and pouches. Would you have the major surgery it would take to make you look as sleek and svelte as you'd like? We're no longer talking about health here, this is actually risking your health for the sake of your vanity, or more accurately, of other peoples' perception of you...
So, would you do it? Why or why not?

I'm happy enough with myself that I can't really see myself doing anything drastic for change. I can lose the 5 or 10 extra lbs on my own.

My question's really a what if type thing, that is, if you were a couple of hundred pounds overweight and lost it...I think I probably would, but then I think about the risks of the surgery and say no way...just wondering what other people think.

Good point. It's easy to say no when there are only a couple of lbs involved but if I were that much overweight I might try anything.

If one is even a candidate for an extreme makeover, you will definitely look different afterward...lol.
I sometimes watched the show "Extreme Makeover" (then just went to the web site to see all the before/after shots) and was truly amazed with what could be done with a host of plastic surgery, clothes, makeup experts, and, oh, about $40,000 of someone else's money(lol).
I mean, the women looked absolutely gorgeous, and I know I'd be guilty of overlooking them on the first go-round. Problem is, they'd probably have such swelled heads now, "I" wouldn't measure up (they'd be able to do much better...drats!!...lol).

No.
Admittedly, I wouldn't say I'm close to being good looking and I weigh a few extra pounds more than I should, but I wouldn't do anything drastic like that, even if I were a couple of hundred pounds overweight. I just find that it isn't worth the trouble.

Mo, I think you're drastically underrating yourself, but I don't think they'd necessarily end up with swelled heads either. I'm not sure our perception of ourselves changes that easily. I know that somewhere in my head I've always been, and always will be, that clumsy, roly poly little geek girl.

A person who is healthy should be able to handle the surgery (or surgeries) involved, just so that they know when to stop and not get all Jacko.
Depending on the amount of weight loss, that could be a lot of skin. It's a trade-off; there will be some scars, and a person would never look perfect, but they might feel better about themselves, which could reflect through their personality.
I saw some show on Discovery I think it was about some very overweight folks. I am thankful I have never been in that kind of condition.
On some of those skincare infomercials, I have thought that a few of the before photos were better than the after ones. I guess it's the old "eye of the beholder" phenomenon. That, and I like the way women look without any makeup.

Great point, Tim. Plastic surgery disasters are only a knife point away...lol. It's gotten to the point where I can't even look at Joan Rivers (I actually thought she looked fantastic "before" all the work she had done).

Spend up to $40,000 for an extreme makeover to help my odds?
In the long term, not worth it in my opinion.
For example,consider yourself real estate.
Your up for sale so you spend a ton of money on a new roof, painting, flooring etc. to make your real estate more attractive thus bringing in more buyers and hopefuly more money.
After its sold the new owner changes it to suit themelves, different color paint, different floor style etc.
Short term may have worked because you sold but in the long term you were changed and maybe not for the better as far as health is concerned.

Heaven forbid if I ever weighed that much I do know this, I would not ever have lipo! I would take that money and make me a personal gym, buy some thing fun for a sport event I love, go to my doctor and have all test possibly taken and stay on a healthy diet through professional monitoring.
It would be more gradifying to see the weight come off naturally and not give my heart a culture shock on surgery, also the weight can return later on. But the rewards are much greater to work at it yourself and it see all the changes taking place on the progession of self makeover. It would be a new way of life and a most rewarding one if done the right way.

Janks, the trick is to find a partner that loves the house (you) for what it is, not what they can make it be.
But there's nothing wrong with sprucing up the grounds a bit beforehand in order to attract "qualified" buyers.

He** yeah, I'm superficial. If I needed it, and could afford to get it, I certainly would.
The problem arises when "I'm" still the content of the beautiful package. If I can't love myself, then it's all for naught.
