too nice, or protective?

Ok so I was raised to treat women with respect and do the gentleman thing all the time, and to be there to protect them, and all that stuff. Now I'm not gonna change that, no sir, but now I'm kinda wondering if being to nice, and protective of the girls around me is whats keeping me from having a relationship? I mean do girls see me more of like a big brother than a guy they'd go out with? Tell me ladies, if you and I were friends and anytime I was with you I held the door open, I watched my language, I made sure you were safe and comfortable at all times, would consider dating me, or would you just think of me as a really good friend?

sometimes being too nice isn` the way to go..or overly protective either...a lot of women don`t like being put on a pedastal...probably is why your getting treated like a brother...but thats just my opinion...

Politeness counts.

Now my question is, have there been comments that you are too protective? If so, you might want to check out if they feel like you might be too controling. I'm not trying to jump to conclusions, but what some men think of as being protective, women often interpret as trying to contol a relationship or situation.

If no complaints have been made, then sheesh, I would hope that the women of Marietta are enlightened enough to recognise that courtesy and consideration aren't emasculating, but the earmarks of someone raised with thoughtfulness.

And...if it were't nie on illegal...I'd consider making history in the buff too.

Oh, wait, you said history buff, didn't you. My bad.

Actually I dont live in Marietta just yet. But that was some good input. I've never been told I'm over protective but I can see where your coming from.

Drummer...

Do you know how hard it is to find someone that is respectful these days??
Take if from a lady who knows... They're very few and far between!

Don't change... Always be the 'gentleman' that you are. Holding doors open..
Making sure that your lady is safe and comfortable.. and watching your
language around them are ALL great qualities. To be honest... I'm really
surprised that there are guys out here your age that is so respectful.

To you....

I hope that both my little grandsons grow up to respect ladies as you do.

We sound a lot alike OHD. Other than the fact that you're younger than my daughters. I've been wondering the same things. But then I also wonder if it's because I'm short (5' 7") or maybe my looks..... or is it something else that I'm missing. I've been told by the women I date that I'm a wonderful guy.... they can't understand why someone hasn't snatched me up.... etc..... but here I am, still very much single at 51, and still looking for the one that would want to share their life with me.
I've had male friends tell me I need to be more of a prck, but it just isn't in my nature. Maybe I'm doomed to be single all my life??

My favorite is when women say they're looking for "a nice guy with an edge". Does that mean they want someone polite enough to drive them to the emergency room after they beat the crap out of them?
