Is it like a quick way of saying hi? What are they supposed to be? Not that I dont like them, just not sure what they're all about.

They are an easy way to see if the other person is interested in you based on your profile. However, I prefer an email over a wink. Much more personal and I do not feel like the guy is just playing the numbers. That is, of course, if the email is written to me and not a "form letter" of some sort. If he addresses specific things in my profile, I will feel much more impressed and much more likely to reply. Sometimes I just delete winks - especially if the guy is a long way away.

A lot of people get in a wad about winks for various reasons. They want a better communication of what the person is trying to say, or don't know how to respond or get mad if someone winks at them who does not fit their "stats" of what they are looking for.

Those people are too uptight :)

I prefer an email if someone may want to get to know me, but if someone wants to get a feel for if I'm interested with a wink or is shy..Wink on.

I do suggest that as a man, women will appreciate an email from you more than a wink, but do as you please.

Some reasons someone may send a wink -

A woman wants the guy to make a move, so she eggs him on with one.
You think someone is cute, so you send one, even if they live far away.
You are interested in someone but you don't fit their "ststs" but they may make an exception, so you make a safe move of a wink.
You get the idea.

I sent a bunch out on Valentines for funnnnnnnnnn..............

The subject of WINKS has been dragged thru these forums sooo many times it's tiring...just do a keyword search to read about them....also you will notice on the winks page there is a small paragraph explaining the purpose of winks, it reads as follows: These are users that have winked at you in the last 30 days. You can delete winks by checking the boxes beside the user names and clicking delete. A wink is a way of showing quick interest in a user. If a user sends you a wink and you're interested in them, reply with a message or send a wink back to let them know you're interested too.

And, I personally like winks... this way I don't get blasted for not returning an email.... I can think, review the profile... and if I don't respond, it is ok...

I like to send winks. I have no idea as to what I should say in an email so sometimes I'll send a wink. I do send emails but nobody responds, which is ok I don't really mind.

I get alot of people oversea's wink me and I don't mind. I don't pay much attention to them. If a local person wink's me then I will e-mail them back. I guess it's just a nice ice breaker for people who don't like to e-mail.

I reply to ever wink and every e-mail....I hate it when I send either and they just disregard it...at least have the courtesy to reply. A simple "no thank you" or "thanks but I'm not interested".

Hardntx, as so many on these forums have said in so many threads and posts, a LOT of us do not like winks....in fact, my profile asks nicely that people not send me winks. If someone reads my profile and sends me a wink anyway, I take that as a sign of either the person has not taken the time to read even a portion of my profile and is just sending a wink to my picture, which is really not cool...OR even worse, they have read my profile, and are disregarding and disrespecting the fact that I am asking not to be winked. In either case, I will not respond to a person who winks me. While you may find that "discourteous", I find winks to be the same. We are all entitled to our opinions

I have tried telling people the truth - they are too far away or they are not my type - they just try to convince me that I am not too far away, that age is just a number, that they are getting a divorce, etc etc etc. I found it was a waste of time.

Flirting in my book, or acknowledgement of my appreciation for something that person did that was very nice or complimentary.

I will admit - I kind of cheat! Many times when I get a Wink, I simply Wink back. I figure at that point, they know I received it and replied in a simple way. If they follow up with an email, I always write back. After that - its up to how the conversations go.

I find it most frustrating when I write, ask some questions, am friendly and the reply is simply the answers to my questions! At that point I am lost - nothing asked back, nothing for me to really respond too....... ??????

This is usually what I do too...it lets them know that I'm interested and that I'd like to get to know them.

...Thank gawd I'm not alone in getting those kinds of emails. I just simply don't reply....I just hate one-sided conversations.

Winks are a great ice breaker for us shy people...or for people like me who are otherwise boring and dont know how to start a conversation.
I think a woman would also rather receive a wink than the comment..'nice boobs, wanna talk?' then again..who knows..

I prefer to send winks just to see if a woman is interested, be less annoyed then if I wrote a long letter then got no response back.

I've posted about this before...I hate winks. Email is free on this site, so what's the point?

I respond to most emails, even to say thanks but no thanks. Except for the ones who obviously didn't read my profile before they wrote -- why bother to write back when they obviously have a problem reading?

the purpose is to annoy me.

I have 19 pages of winks currently after deleting a bunch.

Winking is for lazy people. If you can't take the time or effort to sit down and physically type in a "hi" and the intro that usually follows don't f***ing wink me. Isn't that simple?
