I have dated a couple single moms and found them to be very self sacrificing and focus on the upbringing or there children. Along with work (career) in support of their children they also juggle family life, a household, theirs and children social life. Along with all that wearing two hats of mom and dad (if the dad isn’t into the children’s lives). So hats off to the single moms! I really appreciate you and I bet most other men do too!!

I agree... Single moms work hard... and do a good job.. .
All of the ones I have met continue to impress me... and I know exactly what they go through, because I am a single dad raising kids....

SINGLE MOMS DESERVE PRAISE
This poem is dedicated to giving single moms praise
And to dispel the myths that many critics raise.
Single moms deserve a special place in heaven,
As they are on duty around the clock 24/7.
No one planned for things to be this way,
But most single moms and their kids are doing okay.
Many married parents have problem kids too;
It's not just single moms who do.
Kids will be kids in any setting,
So it's time for the experts to stop fretting.
When the kids of married parents don't do as they should,
People always say that the parents did the best that they could;
But when the kids of single moms don't do as they should,
People always say that mom didn't do as much as she could.
Parental skills don't go out the door
Just because one's marriage is no more.
Kids of single moms don't break more laws;
Experts who say so are just grasping at straws.
Single moms don't deserve to be stereotyped;
Their marital status is far too hyped.
All are being slighted for the faults of a few,
Depriving many of the praise that they are due.
Moms usually try harder when they're going it alone,
Which is something that the media rarely makes known.
Single moms deserve to be valued and respected,
Not put down and neglected.
To finger pointing we should not resort;
Instead, we need to give single moms our full support.
Single dads deserve praise and support just the same,
But this poem is for moms---the ones who get all of the blame.

The only women I have dated over the past few years have all been single-moms because they're great!! I know exactly the pressures they're under, plus I understand those pressures, plus I know that they also understand my own situation. Hurrah for the single moms!!!

Cool Thread -
Ya know, years ago, I viewed my divorced state as a curse of sorts because I never really got married to get divorced (I guess no one does,,, really) & then when I found myself having two children without being married to their father - that made it FIVE in total (gasp!!!).... I used to really feel lonely, sad, and depressed being a single mom for all five...
But, now - I really view it as a blessing! They are all great girls & I am fortunate to be their mother!!! Being a single parent really gives you a different perspective & teaches you a lot & can make you a stronger person! I'm very thankful!!!

Good thread Dwain
So hats off to the single moms! I really appreciate you and I bet most other men do too!!
There is a single mom on this site that I had the priviledge of meeting and making friends with.I'm not sure if I can post her name here but if she reads this thread she can acknowledge herself if she would choose to.More than a hat comes off for this gal,she spent Mothers Day without her son that I pray for daily that he comes home from Iraq in the fine order he went over there with.
This old man just shed a tear writing this.

Back during 911 - the networks just kept praising Rudy Giuliani. They just kept going and going and going - how wonderful he was.
All that time I just kept thinking ........
Get that guy off the cameras - show the REAL heros out there - the black mothers that got their kids raised and educated by themselves - cleaning people’s houses like Giuliani - scrubbing the office floors of the “news worthy” - bringing the hot shots another cup of coffee at the restaurant.
The real heros are what this tread is about.
Mothers are wonderful creatures as are many many Dads.

Actually - a hero has been defined as an extra-ordinary person in an ordinary world... Single parents in general are those kind of people - at least most of them anyways....

Thanks for the kudos, Dwain (I raised 4 children as a single mom).
I, in turn, offer kudos to EVERY parent, whether single or married, who devoted his or her time, efforts, and yes, blood, sweat, and tears, to raising one or more children.
Regardless of marital status, financial situation, or any other demographic, raising children is always a hard job (if you really do it to the best of your ability), and it is the most important job in life -- bar none! Anyone who has been involved in it deserves major praise!
So here's to ya, all you parents out there!!! Every one of you stand up and take a bow!

Such a wonderful post! Thanks Dwain and all for the kind words! Being a single parent is no picnic but wouldn't have done it any other way (except for maybe a hand or two from family or friends).
