I am curious what anyone does on a first date...I am not fond of the dinner date or movie date so I usually plan something. Some of the things I have planned are..
I have taken them to play hockey...fencing lessons...cooking lesson...river trips...lunch and a hike...salsa lessons... rock wall climb .These are just for the first couple hours but always fun...

My first date is always traditional......a romantic movie after a great dinner. Those you cited could fit in a few days later cos of time constraint, but would be ok on the first day if I went out with YOU..painter.

It really depends on what two people are interested in!!
I've gone to dinner, I've gone boating, bowling, hung out with friends, or bbq'd at home. Nothing's set in stone-go with the flow!

Anything conducive to being able to talk and get to know one another.....I generally prefer dinner at a relatively quiet restaurant to start things off, then after dinner most any event would be ok......going out for coffee, seeing a movie, taking a walk, going down to the water, going out dancing, playing pool, having a drink at a lounge with relaxing yet contemporary music, that kinda thing.

I like quiet locations that are conducive to conversation, often opting for something quick. Meeting for coffee, a drink after work, etc., seems to work well. If we are having a nice time, then I normally suggest dinner. If not, then we part ways, with little stress. I never do a movie on a first date.

Coffee or lunch (not dinner) was the norm for me, if meeting for the first time.
That became my rule after a few experiences where I found out the man was expecting something physical.
With my current guy, though, we did 2 museums in one Saturday afternoon. That was great....and I suggest something like that only if you're very certain there could be something there. Coffee or lunch can be much quicker and offers a better escape clause if it's,....well....a fizzle.
But, in this instance, the next date was the next day...where he cooked me dinner. The next date was the next weekend, where I cooked him dinner. And the rest is.......still going. :)

Absolutely agree on that one, also the low stress thing. I try to avoid anything where there's a considerable commitment to time...if it's going well, you can always find a way to extend it, but it can be uncomfortable cutting it short if it's not.

I like the casual type of date. I took my ex wife to a race and to a bonfire at a friends house afterward. Apparently she enjoyed it.

I've had various first dates.... drinks, dinner, bowling, theme park, staff party (big mistake!!), beach.... I tihnk next time I'd like to do something more adventurous, perhaps bungee jumping or paragliding would be fun.

I agree with Loreli
I seriously doubt very many couples on a first date are both going to be interested in bungee jumpin or rock climbing so I wouldnt consider something that is a distraction to the reason your having a first date to begin with, exploring each other to find out if there will ever be a second date.
To me this is best done sitting alone with each other to talk while having a dinner. If our relationship looked promising I would suggest sharing a movie or visiting a place with a band together.
If the first date were during the day,I would suggest to her that we find a park or a zoo to hike in to explore it and each other. If in the summer a local town festival or fair.

I like a nice place to have dinner and then head to a park for a walk.. If there is any kind of cultural event to go to then that is nice to. . I think the 2 people find a common place where they both feel comfortable at. I like to just talk and get to know a person so there are many place's to do that.

Nicest first date was picnic lunch on a Saturday afternoon, then a tour of an historic house and garden.

I think my first date with Loreli would be meeting in the garden.
We could both Turnip to help one another

I like to keep it simple, stoopid! Coffee, walks, lunches...etc. I also like to keep it inexpensive no matter who is paying.
