Two of my schoolmates showed up to prom last night with thirty year old men. One of them, Molly, is engaged to her thirty year old boyfriend. The other one, Kirsten, will probably be getting to that point in a few months. Molly was OBESE all through school and never had any boyfriends....she got gastric bypass so she looks alright now. Kirsten was never very pretty at all, went through tons of boyfrriends because she made herself available sexually, and got her heart broken each time. is this a confidence issue, like they want the older men to validate them in some way?

It could be -- sounds like they both have tried in the past to numb their senses by food or sex. Or perhaps they have had experiences in their lives which have given them a maturity beyond their years.
It may be interesting and educational for you to observe them for a time to see if they are indeed validated, or have the maturity to develop relationships with the older men. It may also be interesting to consider what the older men are getting from attraction to the younger women.

I had a 19 year old girlfriend when I was 30. I tried to avoid her when we met but eventually she managed to snag me. Things were actually pretty good between us but it couldn't last because she needed to leave and go to Western MI university. Her mother still wishes her daughter and I had stayed together.

Sad. From your description of the circumstances, it sounds like these girls will only have relationships that will end in heartache. Until they start liking and respecting themselves, not much will change, unfortunately.

Having 2 sons, the maturity level was compatible.

Sadly I think you may be right. 19 year old girls tend to be far more mature than 19 year old boys. In our case I think the 19/30 relationship worked well in most ways.

similar positive feedback from me. Been together for 15 month, maturity level wasn't a problem, her being near anorexic was and what killed it was having a different outlook on our future lives... We split up as friends, we're still talking and we may meet up this summer.
Not sure if I helped LG getting more insight though

My daughter was 18 and her boyfriend was 35 at the time they met...they`ve been together for two years now and they are happy..has nothing to do with sexual attraction...its all about Love...and matters of the heart..it just depends on the maturity level of the girls and guys...

What kind of 30 year old man would go to a girl's HIGH SCHOOL PROM???
It's one thing if a younger person has graduated from high school for them to date older people. It's completely another to be in high school still and dating a 30 year old!
Where are these girls parents? NO WAY would my mother have allowed this! And I sure as hell wouldn't allow my child!

Agree with Di, but I think people are missing the underlying concern with these two girls. Please read LGQ’s post that started this thread again. These girls sound like they’re in a very vulnerable state -- psychologically hurting and desperate for attention – and “any” relationship, no matter the age, is going to be dysfunctional until they get their own house in order.

I agree with Mo. I think these guy's are just taking advantage of these young girl's that really just want someone to make them feel wanted. I see this happening alot where I live and shake my head. Let's just hope these girl's will see the light and avoid being hurt. I know life is hard but there are other way's to feel good about ourselve's. I hope they will see that.

true Mo, but i personally don't think a 30 yr old man is the answer either and i agree with Di completely......it only adds to their problems...

No one really knows that for sure but the girls themselves...whose to say that they are not sincerely interested in these men...whose to say they don`t love them with no hidden meaning...they are the only ones who know for sure their real motives behind choosing older men..I suppose their just gonna have to learn from their mistakes...

At 18 she's an adult and can do whatever the hell she pleases. A parent can give the "not while you're living under my roof" ultimatum, but that's a good way to send her looking for another roof.
If it's a mistake, she'll learn something. If it's not, then good for both of them.
