Why do people who are married or in a relationship come to a dating site

I just can't understand why people who are in some knid of a relationship come here. This is a dating site, is it ok, when there are many sites with chat rooms and blog for people to make friends. I just don't understand, if i was in a relationship, I don't think I would be here , but I would be with my mate, trying to learn about them.
Does anyone want to comment on this,and help me understand why.

Sure. 
If they are married and here to mess around, hmmmmmmmmm. I agree with you.
However, we have couples here who actually met at MD, and they have made many deep and lasting friendships along the way. They come here to keep in touch. I see nothing wrong with it.
Take a look at the top of the page. It says, "free community for singles and FRIENDS." Not everyone is here to meet a SO. Some are only here for friendship.

Oh, how could I ever leave all my friends I have here? So, if I am married, I can't come here and talk to them? I am not suppose to go to all the wonderful forums I so enjoy? A chat room or blog just doesn't interest me any more.

There are many reasons people come to a site like MD. Most of the people I talk to here are at least 4000 miles from me, so I am not really here looking for a partner, but just to pass the time and make a few friends along the way.
And some people hate chatrooms, like myself, and never use them, and as for blogs, there are blogs here as well, plus the forums, so it is a much more extensive place to meet people and chat than a place with just chat and blogs.

Some of us SINGLE people are not looking for anything other than making/retaining FRIENDS.
(Whoops ^^^ what China said)
...and just because a person is married does NOT mean their brain or heart or personality is dead. It just means they should have enough integrity in those 'parts' NOT to screw around!

I can see that but this is a dating site. If the people you know are friends then why not use email, or other methods. I'm not being dumb i just see it like this. You use a dating site for just that dating not to commicate with ur friends. ai mean i have single and married friends but they do not come here to chat with me or keep in touch. We use another method. I think it's logical that you shouldn't be here on a dating site.

If I get married or involved I plan on sticking around and hope my wife or girlfriend will join me. A relationship is no reason to toss my friends overboard.

Number 1 I searched this exact topic and it didn't show up. Number 2 I'm not saying get rid of you friends. Just, this is a dating site so if your not looking to date,why come here. I see many people here that are in a relationship. If you have friends you should get in touch with them in other ways.

This is a COMMUNITY, it's not just "computerized dating". THAT is what makes this particular site unique and effective. Some of us have been here from its origins six (?) or so years ago, through relationships and friendships, joys and tragedies. Just like any small town, people come and go...but they often take something with them: the knowledge that there are others just like them and often, lifetime friends -- or more -- and the knowledge that they're always welcome to rejoin the fold.

this is a dating site so if your not looking to date,why come here
I am looking for a date and have dated one gal in person from this site that didnt lead to love but led to a pleasant friendship,but I havent found any friendships anywhere near close to my home.Since I'm not one of those that sends out umpteen emails or winks hoping to get a strike,I just make fine online friendships with both genders,learn alot about how different people are different,give my answers to asked questions in these forums and wait to see who finds me interesting enough to contact me.
Thats why I come here.(when I have nothing better to do)

Well, I'm single and looking, but frankly I'm on MD for the forums. As far as finding dates is concerned, I do much better on other sites, but I enjoy my forum friends more than most of the guys I've dated...so here I am. If I do find a SO, though, I fully intend to continue coming here and posting. Chat rooms and emails are nowhere near the same thing. Threads like the Randomness one, and the Comfort Room are totally unlike anything else I've come across...as stated above, we're a community, and if I were MD I'd probably be putting up an ad campaign along the lines of 'We're not your father's dating site'...I've never gotten involved in forums before, and it's not at all what I would have anticipated (okay, with the exception of religion and spirituality & politics and current events...they're what I expected). The warmth of community and friendship here makes being in the position of 'looking' a lot more tolerable...and just as IRL, some of us are single and some of us are married, but we're all friends.

this is truly a global village, we all met here "looking" but we have found is so much more, support, debates, information and the daily smiles we get from friends around the world. some are still looking, some are waiting and all of us are friends, until anything else happens......great place to hang out....huh?

do not insist this is a dating site, it is not... its more of a meeting place for battered and bruised souls...
