You've not only met the man or woman of your dreams, but he or she also happens to carry the name you have always loved!!!

What is that name, and why does it touch or move you even if you are not aware of its origin?

I particularly like Zachary or Xavier (or closely related Javier)

For me these names are strong, and also have spiritual meaning.

As for Javier, well , I also find this name to be sexy.

So, what's in a name of the one you now love.......

I've dated a couple of girls named Tammy or Tamara, one of which was very important to me. Unfortunately, almost all of the Tammy's I've ever known were complete psychos.

For good spiritual names I have always liked Theodore -- gift from God -- and Joshua -- Jehovah saves. I've never dated anyone with either of those names though. I tend to meet lots of men with the same name at different times -- for a while they were all Bills, then Michaels, then Marks... Guys I adored when very young were Leroy and Gaylord.

While it might be fun to banter about the name of the man I'd like to have on my lips when I wake in the morning, I can't imagine ever letting a name get in the way of a good relationship.

By any other word would smell as sweet." ~Shakespeare

My ex husband's name was Jim and it seemed like for years after my divorce, the only guys I would meet were named Jim also. Lately, I've been crossing paths with a lot of guys named Michael or Mark.

Annie, I ran into the same situation. My ex is Jim and it seems like every guy I might have any interest in was named Jim. For awhile it was a real turn off.

Here's something kind of interesting. This site allows you to search name meanings, foreign versions etc.

http://www.behindthename.com/

I knew that my name (John) was pretty common in it's various forms but I didn't realize that there were so many different forms.

Thanks for the info John. Oh, and I like your name

I'm glad it's not really Sponge

I don't think I could ever date a Sponge or that many women could either.

I wouldn't want you to be left in a bucket somewhere .....you're too nice of a guy.

I've always believed names carry a lot of weight. In the "beginning" children were given names with specific purposes, usually to reflect their purpose/destiny, especially in the Bible, and I have observed that even when the person doesn't have a clue to the meaning of their name more often than not they "fit" it quite well.

Like previous posters, I also have had the experience that certain male names seem to "follow" me and not for good! The bane of my existence has been the name James/Jim, (a total of five though one not a "real" relationship) which never worked for me, yet I "insisted" on ignoring this until the last one who is now my ex-husband, so never again. In fact, I now shy away from anyone with a name of someone from my past.

Although I've never "had" a Michael, I've never known one that is not restless, sometimes even a little hyper, perhaps a bit of trouble (or a LOT!) in some way or another, definitely not laid-back/easy going but often very charming. Anyone else observed anything similar? The explanation I've heard is because originally that is the name of the Archangel Michael, a heavenly warrior who battles the fallen angels.

I have a liking for the less common names but at least up to now I've only attracted men with very common names. The name of my favorite ex-b/f is John and all the Johns I've met seem to be nice, warm, solid men; Does that fit you "Spongie"?

A few years ago, during a search, I found this website (http://www.kabalarians.com/cfm/menu-BriefAnalysis.cfm) where you can enter your first name and get a somewhat detailed meaning for free. To get the full report, using your whole name and even nicknames, the fee is $35. I've never had it done but the info I got just on both my first and middle names seem to explain a lot about my life...

I have a great book on names, and if you're interested in research, drop me an email...

My 'soul mate's name is Geza, not exactly commonplace here, but quite common in Hungary, where his family originated. My ex-boyfriend's name is Jim, and like Annie and MiGirl, it seemed that every guy I met was also named Jim...so of course they became Jim1, Jim2, Jim3...now add in the fact that two of my closest friends are married to men named Jim and you may be able to picture some very confusing conversations...

As for a favorite name, I can't say that I really have one...but Latin, it's become a standing joke among people who named their sons Michael...they are ALWAYS getting into hot water (nope, not my kids, but my nephew and several others).
But now I with a Bill and hopefully it won't change to another name
Stick with him Gracie! Hard to go wrong with a Bill !!

William: From the Germanic name Wilhelm, which was composed of the elements wil "will, desire" and helm "helmet, protection". The name was introduced to Britain by the Normans. It has belonged to several rulers of England, Prussia, and Germany, including William the Conqueror, the first Norman king of England. Another famous bearer was William Tell, a legendary 14th-century hero from Switzerland. In the literary world it has been borne by dramatist William Shakespeare and poet William Blake, as well as contemporary authors William Faulkner and William S. Burroughs

I tend to like the longer version of some names like William instead of Bill, James vs Jim, Joseph vs Joe, Michael vs Mike.

But then the opposite is also true....like Rob instead of Robert, Ron vs Ronald, etc.

Most names have an origin, and for some the origin is a combination of putting two names together or a name that is simply made up via the use of the imagination.

I tend to like some names for men that are unisex as well......names that have a sense of strength and masculinity.
