It starts with moving, get away from something that causes that much grief in your life. Then the second thing that you'll need to do is, stop looking back at it, stop talking about it and just let it go. Nothing that makes you get that upset everyday is good for you. The third thing is make new friends in whatever city that you've moved to, life has already gotten better from just the first part of the process getting out of Louisiana, doesn't make it a better place, it just gets good people in touch with other good people.
I finally had enough of it lived there all my life, kept wishing it would get better, kept thinking that someday it would have to go in a different direction. Well, it did it got worse, and even more so after Katrina. I've lived in Louisiana or on the Gulf Coast all my life and never have I seen such savagery that was displayed by the people, not the ones that were left behind, but the ones that chose to stay behind to rape and pillage a city that had supported them all their lives.
As of October 1st it will have been a year that I've been out of harms way in making my decision to move away from Louisiana. I've never been more at peace, to live without fear and to walk the streets at night without the fear of being robbed has got to be one of the greatest feelings in the world.
Do yourselves a favor, move... get as far as you can from Louisiana, let it slip into where ever it is that it is going without you:)

I try to put all the "k" stuff behind me, but it seems it's the only thing people can still talk about. Where did you evacuate to? How did you make out? I'm so tired of it, I feel like making a T-shirt with "Let's get pass Katrina and move on to a more normal life".

Dear, Winelover
I moved past it:) I never got anything that was promised and found myself more miserable than I'd ever been. Here I was putting expectations on something other than what I knew worked, and being let down time and time again. I moved into a small town in the north Georgia mountains, I let go of any idea that something or someone would help me. I picked up and started a new life, I did what it was that I had to, to find happiness and peace. I've since, stopped watching TV going on 7 months now just because of the way the news reports things it finds news worthy, things that keep reminding me of a place that in my new life has no place. Don't get me wrong I miss my friends, it's so different not being able to see them everyday. We talk on the phone, but it's not the same, the ones that I know where are I'll be going to visit soon. All I can tell you that if you've never been out of Louisiana and think that every where is like it is there, do yourself a favor and take a little trip, get in your car and drive go to those little out of the way towns and see how much better things are. When you don't have to lock your doors, can sleep with the windows open, you can have packages delivered to your door and if you're not home they can leave them outside and they're there when you get home. Life's different now, it's better than I could've imagined it would be almost two years later :)
