SpongeBob started a thread a few weeks ago in regards to posting events in your local area. I live in Northern Michigan, the Houghton Lake are to be exact. Our small town is considered a tourism town, so I will do my best to post the local events, happenings and any other pertinent information folks will need to know while visiting here. I'm only human so I may miss some events, please don't hold that against me.
The one item I would like to let everyone know about today is there is road construction (imagine that in Michigan) on our main 4 lane highway that runs through Houghton Lake (M-55). We are down to 2 lanes. It looks like the outer lanes are being stripped and resurfaced. Not sure how long this will take to complete.
Every Saturday night there is racing at Merritt Speedway (located between Houghton Lake and Lake City), I believe the cost for adults to get in is $13.00, not sure about children. I'll pick up a schedule when I am there this weekend and post it next week.
Will post more upcoming events as they are announced.

I am from the Holland area.....and I am telling everyone....don't come here...stay far away as the whole city is being re-done for new sewer and water lines and they are working on the bridge that connects the north side of the city to the south....oy vey to say is not a driving problem is an understatement!! 
But other than that....Grand Rapids has Rob Zombie coming in concert and if you are a wrestling fan as I am....ECW is returning to Muskegon on July 22!

So there really hasn't been a lot happening up here. The road construction is complete in Houghton Lake. I didn't think the road needed any repairs, but the finished project looks great and rides better. Merritt Speedway is having the "Woodtic 100" this next weekend. Friday, July 14th and Saturday July 15th. This is a huge event for race fans. There is camping available, on Saturday there are events planned for the kids. And of course racing. If you want any other details, email me on this site and I will pass them along to you.
There is a fishing contest in Houghton Lake. Big Wally was released in Houghton Lake, he is worth at least $1,000 to the person who catches him, you must have a valid Michigan fishing license.

We have the IRL race coming up at MIS on the 30th. Tickets aren't too bad (should be between $40 and $50) Qualifying is on the 29th and only costs about $10.

Is the $40 - $50 the usual price range for MIS? I know this upcoming weekend at Merritt they have raised the admission fee to $15 - $20. As much as I enjoy working there I will be glad when this next weekend is over.

**Haven't been to MIS in about 20 years or so, I'm sure it has changed quite a bit during that time period.

save your money guys.....you want a cheap race? go to your local meijer and watch the blue hairs circling for the closest slot they can slide their buick into!

lol@you... My favorite thing to do... Grab a six pack and sit in the middle of a WalMart parking lot observing the habits of idiots... lol  Any Walmart will do yea.. no matter the town... there's plently of em out there!!!! (walmarts and idiots) lmaoo

if any is interested, there is a bike rally in West Branch this coming weekend. the 14th and 15th i believe. also, anyone traveling to midland on u.s. 10, watch out for the construction that is happening. any other things going on in mi, please lets me know, i am looking for things to take the kids too.

Hi Missy...welcome to the forums. When I was in high school I would sometimes hang out in Beaverton. They had a tough football team w/all of those farm boys.
One of the gals from our office always takes this week off to go the "hog rally" in West Branch. Will keep you posted on upcoming events in this area for you and the kids.

well, hog rally has moved to Ionia and took place the 7&8 of july. this rally is just for all bikers.
