Thoughts of others who have never been to my home state of Minnesota can be rather amusing to those of us who call MN home. The first myth that I'd like to challenge is this: We do not have permafrost in MN.
I actually live in a beautiful state with 4 distinct seasons. If you want to count construction season, then it's 5.
Spring is a glorious time of the year. Snow is melting and the runoff over any of the state's waterfalls is a sight to see. The birds (that are smarter than the other inhabitants) leave for the winter. No, that's not all the birds, just the smarter ones. In spring they come back and air is alive with their singing. Spring is new birth in MN. Leaves reappear on the trees that looked to be void of life through winter. Baby animals of all kinds are making their presence.
Summer, both days are marvelous. Just kidding. Summer is the time when people are boating on our plethora of lakes. Water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, and picnicing are shared by most. We actually use air conditioning in our cars and homes. You'll hear the phrase, "it's not the heat, it's the humidity" during this season.
Autumn is filled with splendor. God does a number with His paintbrush here with hues that are somewhere between pink and peach, red and burgundy, yellow and rich amber, all offset by fir, larch, pine, and spruce with their different shades of green.
Winter, although it can get cold, has a beauty of it's own. Frost and sometimes snow covering branches of trees as they hover lowly over a rippling stream come to mind. This is the time when nature "reboots." The extreme cold is said to kill airborne viruses. (It does nothing for computer viruses)
Really, it's not so bad here, even if I do want hook up with that beautiful little lady in Florida. When you go on vacation this summer, don't just stop at the Mall of America if you've come to my state. Drive north another 4 hours and I'll share the beauty of the lakes and forests.
