A reminder of what you don't have in Arkansas!!! You don't have snow , you don't have 50 below temps , you don't have the northern lights , but you do have too darn hot, too darn humid, and toooooo many bugs.

These a few observations made by one who enjoys the outdoors:
A couple of weeks ago (week of April 9) I heard frogs croaking. A wonderful sound to behold after winter for me. The songs of numerous birds that have arrived back that took a vacation to the south for the winter. It's nice to hear birds other than ravens. On that note, I have personally noted more and more cardinal sightings over the past several years. I had never seen them in this part of the state while growing up here. Yes, I'm sure it has to do with global warming.
On the ground this week (week of April 23) I am noticing different plant life emerging. I have noted that Columbine is growing quite well at this point. Wild varieties of Violet are up. Trillium leaves are noticeable in there three leaf configuration. Yellow Lady Slippers are up to about two inches above the ground now.
I do need to go out and look for Morel mushrooms. In the mushroom world it is common to have a non-edible variety look alike. False Morels would be the variety to leave on the ground. Easily distinguishable as it is more a coffee color and if put side by side with the Common (edible variety) is not as uniform in shape either. Learn the difference with somebody that knows them first.
In pools of water I have seen mosquito wigglers.... Oh yes, they're on their way. Happy swatting!
A friend told me yesterday that they knew about baby Cotton Tail Rabbits seen in another friend's yard.
Never mind me, I'm just excited of winter being behind us again and enjoying God's creation around me.
The best to you my friends!

Minnesota has over 14,000 usable lakes (not counting mud puddle size ones) and more coastline than Florida, Texas and California combined...you don't have THAT in Ak.....
