Hehe ja. Also...it *is* a good way to distract the mind, keep you from thinking about it too much.

Every person I have known who bounced right back into dating right after a bad break up, Ended up in just as bad, or a worse mess... there is a reason for the saying, "Out of the frying pan, and into the fire..."

Every person I have known who bounced right back into dating right after a bad break up, Ended up in just as bad, or a worse mess Well I'm the exception to that rule then. Getting out and meeting new people may very well have saved my mental health at the time.

I did not date for 18 months after my 12 yr marriage ended. I didn't think it would be fair to me or the person I dated. I got my thoughts in order and then started to date. The last 2 men I have dated have only been divorced for a year. Needless to say they both had issues with the divorce. I now will not date someone until they have been divorced for at least 2 years. That is my own personal preference.

I think you need time to grief because if you go straight into another relationship, then how do you know if he's not just a rebound. I have done this several times and the relationship doesnt last because from the beginning you were just looking for someone to be there for you and fill that void and emptiness. As long as you still have those feelings for someone else, that new boyfriend won't always take your pain away. He only will for a while. You need time.

I agree with what so many others here have stated. Give yourself time to heal by going out with friends, being good to yourself, keeping busy, and your heart will let you know when the time is right.
