I was watching CNN, and the stat the 50% of Marriages end in divorce is skewed...
less than 25% of all men or women have been divorced... but that small group tends to have multiples of divorces... so that people really do repeat behaviors....

The often-cited "50%" divorce rate is usually in reference to the proportion of marriages taking place right now that will eventually divorce. In a lot of states there are now more paternity related custody actions than divorces.

Things that make you go hmmmmm......
Seems that everyone I ask (including myself) is a divorcee.
I went to an event last year, and every woman I hadn't seen
in a few years was, yep, divorced. So I truly don't believe that it's
a mere 25%. At least not in the Northeast.

I don't look at statistics. I just place focus on who I am with who I am with.

I'd be curious to see what the statistics were for divorce based on age and number of years married. My guess is that the multiple divorcees are not neccassarily younger, but they don't stay in those relationships long. They are not together with someone for 10 years then divorce, then another 10, then divorce again... more like with someone for 2 or 3 years (or less), divorce, with someone a short time, divorce, etc.

Typically, people divorce either BEFORE they have children ( i.e. around 2 years in marriage ) or ,if they started a family right away - AFTER THE CHILDREN ARE GROWN ( which is around 20 years in marriage). Divorce after 10 years of marriage is rare case, indeed. It doesn't take that long to figure out that the partner is intolerable to share life with . Having children abused or witnessing abuse until they are 10 years old doesn't seem like something any woman might do to her kids.

I'm not sure where you got your information, CV, but I looked up the statistics in January of this year and the average was 8 years of marriage before a divorce.

Yes, Dooney - that's what "average" is all about - smacks right in the middle of the "real" numbers . ( before children + teenage children divide times 2 = 8 years old children ).

Well I was married for 8 years when I got a divorce and some of my friends who are divorced were married for a similar number of years. It's not like people make the decision based on the number of years.

I should have read the expiration date on my ex-husband. That would have saved me a lot of problems.
I don't think CV understands statistics and the normal distribution curve and how the mean and mode tend to be very similiar because most statistics have a normal distribution- hence the name "normal" distribution.

What is the current divorce rate in America? It is frequently reported that the divorce rate in America is 50%. This data is not accurately correct, however, it is reasonably close to actual. The Americans for Divorce Reform estimates that "Probably, 40 or possibly even 50 percent of marriages will end in divorce if current trends continue.", which is actually a projection.
"50% of all marriages in the America end in divorce." The above statement about the divorce rate in America hides all the details about distribution, however.
Age at marriage for those who divorce in America Age Women Men Under 20 years old 27.6% 11.7% 20 to 24 years old 36.6% 38.8% 25 to 29 years old 16.4% 22.3% 30 to 34 years old 8.5% 11.6% 35 to 39 years old 5.1% 6.5%

The divorce rate in America for childless couples and couples with children According to discovery channel, couples with children have a slightly lower rate of divorce than childless couples.
Sociologists believe that childlessness is also a common cause of divorce. The absence of children leads to loneliness and weariness and even in the United States, at least 66 per cent of all divorced couples are childless.
