I bought property on the Washburn mail route nearly two years ago. The view from my place is awesome. It surprises most people who come to visit. I actually live closer to pea Ridge, AR than to Washburn, so I list myself here as being in Pea Ridge. Last fall I wrote two poems which commemorate my relationship with the land I live on. I will share them here:

The wind blows freely through the trees, as boughs bend and cedars whisper softly. A squirrel chatters his sanguine message while leaves fall as dancers on the autumn breeze. Winter is coming. The message is clear. It is time for gathering firewood and filling the cracks between loose boards. It is a time to be busy, yet just a moment I have taken to meditate on this moment spent alone.

The earth is covered

with a freshly fallen carpet of leaves

shed by oaks, walnuts, dogwood and persimmon

Ferns rest lazily upon them as if to play...

or sing a joyous song

The sun shines through sparse branches

on its westward path

for day is nearly fallen

The fronds crawl across autumn colors

mocking winter's slow approach

and laughter fills the air

......enjoy life and love... steven

I love the Ozarks, my favorite place to ride my motorcycle. If MO goes with the modified helmet law this fall, the secret will be out. Sort of a double edged sword. Fortunately, all the yuppies will still be going to Sturgis and Daytona for a while.
