Do you think over time we turn into our parents?

Yes, absolutely. Unless we take proactive steps to avoid it.

I think it depends on the parents. My ex was abused as a child, but isn't abusive himself.

We might repeat some of the stupidity our parents unfortunately mentored in our general direction...but it's physically impossible to turn into our parents. My mom's only 50...she's still changing and growing, you know?

I'm pretty sure that was the intent of the original poster.

but it's physically impossible to turn into our parents.

I'm pretty sure that wasn't the intent of the original poster. LOL!

ya know you're getting old when you start making the same noise as your old man-- especially getting off the couch

Actually...I'm pretty sure either my body is older than my mother's or I've just worked mine harder. My knees crack everytime I bend down. Her's never did that...never do that now. I don't know about my "old man's." I used to call my ex-husband my "old man." He groaned all the dang time, I know that!

Yes, I think we do turn into our parents to a degree. Sad, isn't it? Who the hell wants to be them?

I know I know...I am not from New York...but still as a young mom...I have already heard the stuff my mom said to me find it's way in my conversations with my two year old. I look at him...and think oooo my GOD! I have called her a few times and had the ...hey mom remember when you said this...well guess what I just did....conversations. I think it is bound to happen over time; our parents shape our lives in many ways for better or for worse, and that isn't always a bad thing. Some times it is, and GOD bless those who can modify thier child raising...GOD help those who struggle.

Momma24, I just had a checkup at a new doctor last week. You have a striking resemblance to her. She was hot. It was a very odd experience being attracted to my doctor. Definitely a new one for me.

Why thank you Null, I do believe you just called me hot!! Wow, I don't hear that often lol! Oh, another thing...I don't mind doing some of the things my parents did. I am very close to my parents, and respect them. It would be a blessing to have the wisdom they did when say...oh my son is in his ....terrible two moments...ahhh those are tough!

Yeah, I suppose I did call you hot. I'm a sucker for long straight hair.

During the checkup she said she wasn't going to give me a testicular exam because I'm not old enough considering my family has no history. My first thought was *whew*! My second thought was "damn, I'm not sure I'd mind getting a testicular exam from her. She's hot!"

I then spent the next 10 minutes trying to figure out exactly how I felt about getting a testicular exam from a hot doctor. I'm used to hot teachers. Not hot doctors.

My blood pressure was a tad elevated (133/85) but my cholesterol was very good. Overall was 132 (goal is under 200), HDL was 51 (goal is above 40) and LDL was 60 (goal was under 130).

My LDL (the bad cholesterol) is phenomenal, for anyone. Even for a teenager. I attribute that to avoiding animal products, anything with partially hydrogenated oils, fried foods. I make sure to eat fish twice a week. And I keep my diet varied. I also dance quite a bit and try to play racquetball once or twice a week.

Most of all, I hardly eat any meat at all.

From someone as hot as you?

Yes, please! I was a tad sick early last week, so please, be thorough.

Now..how are you going to celebrate that?

Why not go out with me to this awesome vegan restaurant I found on Sullivan street in the Village. There's a comedy club a block away. They already know me over there and always give me good seats. The food is all fried, but there ain't no cholesterol in alcohol.

Actually, I just read that moderate alcohol consumption by men who don't smoke lowers the incident of coronary failure and cholesterol. You'd be helping to save my life by going with me!
