WATCH OUT FOR DATING SITE SCAMMERS!!!

Please everyone watch out for scams. I was contacted by a man who after we corresponded for a while, asked me to open a saving account for him, because he was stuck out of the country and was selling some land and couldn’t get the check cashed because his “son” had overdrawn his accounts and his bank had closed his accounts. So he wanted me to open an account for him, with MY MONEY and then send him the info on the account, “account number and routing number” so he could deposit the check into the account!
Well DAH I wasn’t born yesterday! So of course I didn’t do it, but instead printed out his letters and our instant messenger chats and took it to the police. They sent me to our local state police and they in turn gave me a URL to the FBI to report this. Sad to say that as far as I can tell nothing has been done about this man. I also reported him to the site where I met him and again sad to say, he is still in that site!!
So everyone please be careful when meeting anyone on line. If they write in broken English you can just bet they are a scammer! Do not help them out in any way that involves money, because it could cost you your money as well as a trip to jail from what I’ve read. They ask you cash checks for them, or money orders, open bank accounts etc. Just report them, “not that it seems to help” and block them!
Hope this little bit of advice helps you all have a Very Happy New Year!

Unfortunately, this type of scam is as common as fleas on dogs. There isn't much law enforcement can do about it because it is too widespread, and most of it is done by people outside of the United States.

The important thing is to use common sense. Obviously you should NEVER send any money, do anything with financial accounts, or give out any personal information to any person you do not know well IN PERSON.

If everyone just applied this common sense rule, the problem would go away.

Sadly, as my Grandfather used to tell me, "There's a sucker born every minute, AND TWO BORN TO TAKE HIM."

Interesting..if you are not going to get married again, why did you send me an email telling me how wonderful you think my profile is, and how much you'd like to meet me? A scammer claiming to be scammed...neat concept.

Not to get off topic (haha), but what exactly does this mean, KayOC?

I like to make my man feel like a man.

Could you expand on that a little further, please?

ATTENTION. Dear,

From the National chairman of contract award committee of the Gold and
Natural resources ministry here in South Africa, for security reasons, I may
not wish to disclose the most important thing for now until I hear from
you.

After due deliberation with my partner, I decided to forward to you
this business proposal, we want you to assist us receive the sum of Twenty
eight million, six hundred thousand united state bills ($28.6M)million into
your account.

This fund resulted from an over-invoiced contract awarded by us under
the budget allocation to my ministry and the bill was approved for
payment by the concerned ministries. The contract was executed,
commissioned and the contractor was paid his actual cost of the contract. Now, we
are left with the balance of $28.6M as the over invoiced amount, which
we have deliberately over estimated for our own use. Please note that
the law forbids civil servants to operate or own foreign accounts hence
this contact, we have agreed to share the money in the following
percentages: 30 for you, 60 for us 10 for tax as may be required by your
government, because we don?t need anything will delay this money when it
arrive in your bank account.

Note that this transaction is very much free from all sorts of risk
hence the business was carefully planned before it was successfully
executed and we the officials involved in the deal have put many years in
service to our ministry. We have been exercising patience for this
privilege for so long not until the presidential announcement last week, that
all foreign contractors owed be paid forthwith, this will enable the presidency reconcile our debt ratio with the outside world and to most of us, this is a lifetime blessing we can not afford to miss.

Upon indication of your interest to fully co-operate with us, a payment
application/information form will be sent to you via email for
completion. Note that the following information: your private phone number
and email address willenable us seek/secure approval of the fund from the
concerned government quarters/ministries within 3-4 banking days.

As soon as we confirm receipt of this money in your nominated bank
account, my partner and I will come over to your country to arrange for our
own share and possibly invest part of this money in your country. Let
honesty and trust be our watchword throughout this transaction.

To indcate your intrest kindly send your full name adress fax/ phone number
I shall furnish you with some details about myself. Your prompt reply
will be highly appreciated.

Best regards.

Engr,David .

Yeah I was almost duped as well, on another site. Her belated father had alot of money, and wanted me to give a credit number. This was taken place in Nigeria area. Guess she had a friend in the states as well helping. Thing was had to give 5,000usd to make that happen. She got those people to send me email saying that, and you can have the millions of dollars. They sent me the form, and when I said no, not gonna. They sent me back an email saying if I didn't do it they would let the fbi know about and in essence to threaten me. Just said I had deleted the email. Since then haven't emailed me, nor has fbi has contacted me. I knew it wasn't a threat. Just don't think they are smart enough over there yet. Along with russian women on this site, they send an email, then say how come you not write to me? Blah blah. Then after abit of emails, say could you help me out and we could be together. We are not as dumb as we look. Just don't fall in that trap.
