home fire extinguishers?

A fireman told me to keep my home fire extinguisher near my front & rear doors. If it is in the kitchen, I may not be able to get to it in case of a fire. If it is by the doors, then I know where it is, and once I get to it, I can make the decision about whether to leave or try to fight the fire. I also keep a tin of unbleached flour within arms length of the stove...

Dang...now I'm all nervous. I'd just use a hose.

Never use flour! It's flammable, and in it's powdered form (as in throwing it on a fire) it can flash up, or explode. Use baking soda instead.
