I was about 40 blocks away going to a big honcho meeting which became a cry fest. I saw the buildings burning and collapsing from the CEO's office. So much has changed that I find myself debating whether I should give the other person a chance. My whole world view became more realistic.
Too much to say and too many people I knew died then.
But that week I upped my life insurance and had a will made.

The change was it made me more appreciative of each moment we have to live our lives, because you never know when it's going to be gone. I know a cliche, but live for the moment The day was chaotic to say the least. No one had the news straight as to what was going on and the rumor was that more planes were being highjacked and flying over NY. I had to race to 2 different schools in 2 different cities to pull my daughters out, once I had them with me, I felt a sense of relief. I did indeed attend a funeral of a young women whom I knew that died in the towers. I knew several other's through acquaintances that were also killed.

I was living in VA at the time, within minutes of the Pentagon. I was home with a broken ankle and my mom was down helping me out. Actually, she was supposed to go home that day to be replaced by my sister, who had just moved back to Brooklyn. The plane that hit the Pentagon flew in very low over my neighborhood, shaking the glass in the windows.

Well, it's not "today" anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't remember where I was on 9/11/2001.
I was in high school, an announcement came over the loudspeaker for all students and staff to report to the auditorium (which turned out to be a chaotic mess because it was a mad rush of about 1200 people since no one knew what was going on) immediately.
After we were all gathered we were advised of what was going on and we sat there in awe watching the news coverage. Those that knew people that were involved rushed to the phones to contact family members.
The rest of us sat there. Watching, and I remember feeling the most incredible feeling of helplessness and shock I think I've ever felt in my life. Some of us cried. Some people held hands. Some just sat there not saying a word.
I'll never forget.

I was up in Fairfield County and it was the day that my Realtor's Open House was scheduled. Needless to say, no one showed up, but I got a swarm of prospective buyers from the City a week later (too much of a culture shock for most of them, though)...
The outpouring of help from the local towns was an amazing thing to see -- everything from water and food donations, rescue volunteers and hosting "refugees" and their pets (some just for "respite" time-out)...because there but for the grace of God it could have been any one of us or our neighbors.
...I only personally knew the young Hansen family that died on one of the planes, but it was a time when everyone in Connecticut felt "Ich bin ein New Yorker".......

I felt like that in school when I heard about the assassination of JFK.

That day I was on my way to the Marriott Hotel at the WTC, had an appointment at 9am. I did not get there on time due to train delays... when the trains were stuck I did not stay to find out what was going on... I went out to the street and saw all the smoke and people running everywhere... I hopped on the first express bus that could take me back home, needed to get my girls from school... I thought the world was coming to an end that day. Lost a few friends on that terrible attack that day. , Since then, I've decided not to slave at work and enjoy life... I work less hours. I tell my family every day how much they mean to me and appreciate all the good that I had over looked before.
