his doctor should have already found him a reputale nephrologist.. dialysis can keep him alive til a donor can be found. or until they can figure out why his kidneys have failed and repair the problem

my sister said they put him on it tomorrow. he has so many other problems that they can't do things that need to be done. he is a diabetic, has heart problems. and needs a knee replacement. his liver is damaged because he was in such pain from his knee he was taking pain pills with tylenol in them and taking tylenol too. double dosing tylenol. he is type 2 diabetic and only takes pills and no insulin but never checks his sugar. plus this started with the flu..he got dehydrated...and his metabolism got all screwed up and his kidneys shut down.

good to hear he has a nephrologist now.. I worked the dialysis unit for a number of years and from what you have described, he was basically a non compliant fella as far as taking care of himself.. that usually happens when depression sets in after serious health issues.. between is tylenol intake and not keeping his sugar tested, this was bound to happen. I am so sorry that your friend is having to deal with such serious health issues.. hopefully this new doctor can rectify some of the damage that has been done and give your friend some quality of life ... prayers sent...

thank you nc. i did not update everybody. he was doing better and the doctor found out what the original cause of all this was. he had gangrene in his gall bladder and a large kidney stone. they did emergency surgery yesterday and i have not heard the latest as of last night. they did laproscopic surgery which is great because they thought they were going to have to cut him open which would have been very risky with his heart problems and weight and diabetes. thanks againa and keep him in your prayers through out the day please. i believe prayer works.

i know daisy. his wife talked to the nurse manager yesterday and told her the nurses were giving him way too much sweets. she called the dietician up there and thet i guess made up a diet plan. then today his wife went in ther and he had 5 fruit juices on his tray. his sugar today was 252 or 202 i cant remember. but he is feeling better. he was so depressed at first he told his wife he wanted to go "home". then earlier this week he said he wish he could go to his home. and today he got up and shaved. that is a good sign his depression may be lifting a little. but they do have him on morphine and i hope he dont get addicted. i cant see how he can't get addicted can you. thanks for caring daisy. vance

He would have to be on the morphine for quite a while before he gets addicted. They will lower his dose a little at a time. Right now, he needs it.. His sugar is still way too high. Glad they got the dietician in there.. but right now, any juice is a no-no I'm surprised he wasn't in a coma when his sugar was over 300.
I hope he is on the road to recovery now. Just getting out of bed is a great start. And I hope this crisis scared him enough that he will take better care of himself from now on and keep his diabetes under control. Believe me.. being hooked to a dialysis machine 3 or 4 days a week for 3 hours takes a toll on the patient AND his family emotionally. He still has alot of living to do...I've taken care of men, women and children much younger than him that have had to have limbs amputated, gone blind.. and died, because they didn't want to follow the proper diet and keep their sugar under control. I'll keep him in my thoughts and prayers
