Why do women have pubic hair?

Most every "thing" , "part", or "accessory" of the human body has a function. Since many if not most of todays women now shave this god-given "accessory" why is the hair there in the first place?

I can't stand shaved pubes. Ouch, itchy. I prefer all natural in that department. It is my understanding that the hair is there as a cushion or an added lubricant. I may be totally wrong on that tho.

Sign of sexual development......no reason not to keep yourself well groomed
....since the beginning of "woman" kind most women could not wait until they fully developed, right?,....in other words for umteen thousand years women never shaved bald until this generation  . Well groomed has, I guess taken, on a new look? I am not trying to belittle anyone..... just wish this trend would have not happened

I think it has to do with the very strong oral sex craze going on now. So many people complain they do not like hair in their mouths. Well, I am not part of that craze. And who worries about a little hair anyway? ptuuui
My personal take on it is that people are more and more into prepubescents and it gives that look. I knew a man that had his very skinny flat chested girlfriend shave totally and I saw how he looked at little girls. Ugh.

Women have hair for the same reason men do, nature never intended for us to wear clothes, so we were provided with body hair to protect us from the elements. Women (and men) actually have hair all over their bodies, arm pits, legs, pubes, and even arms, although that's usually very fine and hard to see.
There is nothing special about pubic hair, and I would guess that evolution will eventually get rid of it.
Personally, I like to eat pussy, so I prefer no hair.

I actually prefer not to have hair....so i shave it except for a small piece at the top....i just feel cleaner when im clean shaven...i find as well that i get wetter being shaved .....i have no clue if being shaved has anything to do with that...but as i said...i just feel cleaner being bald.....

Personally I have been enjoying hair pie for 40 + years & I prefer hair ..............however your body hair explanation has merit...........so thank goodness evolution takes millions of years...but on second thought women are developing pubic hair younger & younger, right?
