Some of us would be thrilled to have a chance at real fatherhood.

Well to be honest i grew up without a father it was hard on those day when it was father and son day and when i p[layed football and everyone had there father thier, but to be frank my momma was mom and dad, and with that experience i truly became a great father to my little princess because not having him there mmade me say everyday i will never be like that with my kids, even though im divorced but im with her almost everyday because of it,

cas mi, people like you make me sick. For a man many years my senior, I am terribly disappointed in your behavior. To the original poster, I've always wondered that myself. If I knew I fathered a child with a woman I had sex with, I would take full responsibility and be there for every bit of his/her life.

Weather I applaud you for your comment, you'd fall over if you knew the stats of the deadbeats. My own father was a POS deadbeat too. ANd yes I have and I am mommy and daddy to my 5 yr old just as I was to my 21 yr old.

It would not surprise me to know that there are plenty of deadbeats out there in public. It is just amazing that the concept of family has so badly fallen by the wayside here in this nation. But, congratulations ruready4me2luvu on raising a 21 y.o. on your own. I give my best wishes to you for your 5 y.o. as well.

The real question is why do they think they have no responsibility when it happens?

I've read on other forums many cases where women discover they are pregnant and don't even tell the father. Why is that right? And don't men have a right to know if they have fathered a child? Why should it be up to the woman to decide whether or not to inform the father? Why should it even be legal to do this?

Boy Pete, did you hit home with that one. Grandparents too. My son found out after they broke up that his girl friend had been pregnant and had an abortion. I'd have been more than happy, in fact overjoyed, to have a chance to raise it if she couldn't see her way to doing it...and if she changed her mind later and wanted to have a part in raising her child, I know that would have been fine with me.

OK, well I'm not going to get into a pro-choice/pro-life debate here (believe it or not - I'm not an idiot) - but once a child is actually born, what gives women the right to deny the father of the knowledge that he is a father?

Pete--Unfortunately, not all guys feel this way. They'd rather not know about, or be bothered with, a child. And they never want to take any kind of responsibility for that child anyway. Not physically, emotionally, or financially.
At best, they tend to be sporadic fathers. . . is this good for the child? And they tend to blame the woman for getting pregnant in the first place. . . sometimes physically. Is this good for the woman?
Sometimes not letting him know is the best thing to do. . . for everyone. I just wish I'd realized this before I told my own child's father. . .
Just my 2 cents

Green my little girl doesn't need her POS deadbeat in her life, he is no role model. He walks a straight line with his support even though it is very much but after the first of the year this gal is gonna kick it into high gear on his ass for another waltz across the courtroom He knows I'll lock him up when he pases that 30 day mark
