Hi cutie Rachel.... A rose by any other name is still a rose.
Cumming is slang for orgasm, which is more technical. Consider which is more appropriate in the passionate moment to yell out:
I'm cummmmmmmmmmmming arrgggggghhhhhhh -- OR--
I'm-having-an-ejaculatory-reaction.

maybe i'm wrong, but i think of an orgasm as " a tic resulting from something pleasurable".....with or without ejaculate. As in orgasming for the fourth or fifth....etc. time in one night. Cumming, i always thought of as actual ejaculate. This is just one guys opinion!.....and i'm right very rarely!.....

I think when you reduce it down to it's simplest level.....men cum...women orgasm

I agree with Hard on this one! However...there are times when women can do BOTH. Aren't ya jealous, Hard?

Geez, Rachel asks the most interesting questions.
I always thought they were two words for the same thing but reading these posts I'm cumming to the conclusion maybe I was wrong. Women can do both? I'm sure the same thing happens with men, they are two distinct moments in the same act. This sounds so clinical but the orgasm would be the tingly-all-over spine melting shivers and cumming would be the ejaculation.
How does that sound?

I think the only difference is... cumming is a verb and orgasm is a noun - oh, actually it can be a verb too

I see your grammatical point and I agree - but as to the nuances of meaning - are they talking about exactly the same thing? But let's not take the fun out of an absolutely wonderful thing, let's all come together
What does Rachael think??? Why would you think they are different?

good question Rachel ok lemme see. To the best of my knowledge, orgasm is the climactic pleasure or excitement during sex....both men and women do orgasm while cumming.....oh no is this a word or maybe it's derived from the word "cum" which is a man's semen and not a woman's seminal fluid. I think women have got nothing to do with "cumming" ..........oh no wait a sec, maybe we're confused here between "coming"....which, I think, is when a human being orgasms, and "cumming"...cos they're pronounced the same lol
Seriously to answer your question in the informal context, they are two different things. Orgasm is prior to cumming

I hate to throw a kink is this thread but how would you classify pre-cum...would it be a silent cumming or a insignificant orgasm??
