Hi, was wondering if anyone could tell me about Oklahoma as a whole.......Just realized how cheap it was out there, and so I am looking into a move from the southeast.
I am 49/single, but not dead yet so would like some amenities. Not so much into the bar scene anymore but still like to dance/bicycle/walk, get involved in social activities.
Where in Oklahoma should i start looking? Oh by the way I prefer trees, and water to desert/dry scenery.......LOL. Cities with less than 100,000 population. Where should i start looking?
Any opinions or advice welcome

Hi! yes, Oklahoma is comparitively inexpensive, and after 10 years I'm mostly over my culture shock! It sounds as though you'd be happier in the eastern third of the state than the central/western section - more hills, more forest, more water. The Tulsa area (not Tulsa as such) is quite nice - so you can be close enough to the ammenities without living in too cluttered an area. OKC allows that, as well, but the landscape is not quite as appealing - these aren't hills, they're ripples!
But a lot depends upon your chosen lifestyle - I have horses, and bought my current place because it provided what I need for them within a reasonable commute to my work. That took some serious effort to find! I looked at 10 other places (following a lot of studying of listings), none of which would do what I needed. Fortunately, the 11th place was a winner. If I hadn't found it, I wouldn't have accepted the job offer and moved here!
If you want to go into more detail of what you want, I'll be happy to try to help - and no, I'm anything BUT a realtor!

And I am sure if i move to Oklahoma it will be a different kind of shock......
Where in Ok are u? and how do u like the people? I heard they were great. I don't have any children or family to worry about, I am as free as a bird here.
I could transfer out there with my job also, I work in retail and they transfer all the time.......

HI SILLY: I LIVE IN OKLA. JUST ON THE ARK BORDER NEAR FT. SMITH. AND YOU ARE RIGHT, IT IS CHEAPER TO LIVE ON MY SIDE OF THE LINE. WHEN I BOUGHT MY HOME 25 YR. AGO, IT WAS $20,000 CHEAPER THAN THE SAME SIZE/STYLE OF HOME IN FT. SMITH. TULSA IS ABOUT 1 1/2 HR. FROM MY HOUSE, AND THERE ARE A LOT OF SMALL TOWNS BETWEEN US. MUSKOGEE, VIAN, SALLISAW, MULDROW, BROKEN BOW. LAKE TENKILLER IS A BEAUTIFUL AREA. AND NOT TOO FAR FROM EITHER FT. SMITH, OR TULSA. BOTH ARE MAJOR AREAS FOR SHOPPING AND/OR ENTERTAINMENT.
IF YOU'D LIKE MORE INFO, I'M ON HERE. KMAXOK.

Hi SG -
I moved here from outside Charlotte, NC.. and I can assure you that I suffered a similar culture shock moving to NC from eastern Pa! But.... I learned that life is GOOD without serious winter, even if summers can be beastly! It's easier and less expensive to chill out lounging in the pool (even a little pop-up one, on the cheap) during the worst of summer than to stoke the fires and go broke paying the gas/oil/electric bills trying to stay warm in the winter!
If you are familiar with the NC/SC/Ga area, I think you'll find the people remarkably similar here. At least, as a died in the wool yankee, I've found that to be pretty true! I live just outside OKC, in a fairly rural area obviously but close enough to commute. My neighbors generally are very nice - quiet, non-intrusive, but generous and welcoming.

If you are looking for the more lush scenery(trees, water, etc) and cities under 100,000 in population, then you need to look at areas in the Eastern half of the state. That area is known for its' lakes, and hilly terrain. Probably suggest that you look in the area surrounding Tulsa, as it would probably be more to your liking, but not Tulsa itself as the population is greater than 100,000. Hope this helps.
