My son just moved to Eugene, I'm thinking about visiting him for Christmas. Can anyone tell me what the weather is like that time of year? Would a Floridian freeze her butt off?

I don't know about that...a couple of years ago I spent New Year's Eve at the Hilton and woke up in the morning to a snow storm with nothing moving. Yes, sometimes the valley does get snow, if you do visit get yourself some warm snugglies.

Minky, I am sure you will be okay. My son lives in Eugene and I have been going up every year since he moved there. They are the only family I have left here. I have had no problems. Sometimes there is snow, but I haven't seen any there in the past 4 years. Usually it is even higher than the mountain passes I have to cross to get there. It may rain however. Like Red said, bring some Winter snuggies, but I am sure you will be fine. Check the forecast before you come.. Oregon is a beautiful place to see!

Ahhh, Snugglies...Anything that keeps you warm and dry My favorite are water proof boots that are lined with fleece. Yep, even people who grew up here forget to come prepared...Every spring I have to bring extra gloves to our family's first beach outing, my siblings Always forget about Oregon weather.

As a transplanted Texan now living along the coast, I already have my snugglies out...and my warm jammies and my fleece blankets and my ear-muffs. I look like the kid in "A Christmas Story" when I walk my dog.

Ah, Trueblue, you are already an Oregonian that's all. The motto is, You can always take it off, but if you don't bring it you can't put it on...

Id bring plenty of suntan lotion just in case.I live North of Eugene but due to Global warming Oregon is expecting a very hot and humid December.Dont forget beach towels and your suit as well. You wont need a jacket or pants just t-shirts and shorts or capris.Look forward to a sunny and fun time in Eugene around Christmas.Enjoy!!

"brutally honest", says wlvmark's profile----guess I have yet to receive the memo on the forecast for a hot and humid December :-)
Layers is the name of the fashion and comfort game in OR---even in Eastern OR, one simply needs more layers. Something silk is a great first layer---light and comfy next to the skin. The final layer needs be water resistant, with several in between cotton or wool items.
The weather in the NW is variable, unpredictable, and awesome. Have a wonderful visit with your son!

When are you planning to be in Eugene, Minky? A gathering of MD'ers at a brew pub could be fun.

The Steelhead Brewery sounds great. I will be in Eugene the 24th and 25th visiting my Granddaughters.
"GO DUCKS"!!! They should be # 2 or #3 in the nation. However the SE Conference is the polsters biased league. Love the DUCKS!

I have also been keeping up with the Ducks. Yes, they have been doing well this season, and I do hope they move on to the Rose Bowl, or even the Sugar Bowl.
