I did, but unfortunately I blew it I guess. After a year of talking on the phone and finally meeting, I wanted to move forward. He seemed very interested and kept calling, but he said he was in no rush... I'm thinking after a year, it's time to s%!t or get off the pot! A little progress would have been good, like a few more personal meetings, dates...Something!
Anyway, I let him know I was not here to just talk on the phone or online and that was the end of him. But I really liked him and I do miss our conversations. Oh well...

You just have to be very careful. Start out slow, don't give tooooo much information, such as address, etc. at first and e-mail and gradually move to the phone. When comfortable with each other, meet in a public place for a meet and greet type of thing. I wouldn't be drinking alcohol on the first meeting. You need your wits about you, not clouded judgement.
Good luck!

I would say that all the dates I've been on in the past two years---around say 15---have lived up to their profile with the exception to one who looked about ten years older than her photo. They were all very nice and decent, some interesting that carried to 2, 3 dates. Dating is cool I don't know why people make such a big deal about the process. I mean, in the end you're just meeting up for coffee or whatever and a talk. I enjoy meeting new people and I would think most people do once they loosen up and realize we're all in the same boat.

I have had 2 relationships with guys I met online. They lasted 8 to 10 months each and I am still friends with both of them. I also have a couple of others who have remained friends but there was no spark of romance. I still email them and meet one every couple of months for dinner. The couple of bad experiences just turned into something to laugh about later. Nothing terrible ever happened.
At first I was afraid to meet them and kept putting it off. Now I feel the quicker the better. Why waste time emailing someone who turns out to be a jerk? Even worse to waste time emailing if they are a winner.
I am careful and don't give out my address or too much info until after we have met at a restaurant (which I think is the safest place). I usually offer to pay, but they always do. I usually tell someone where I am going and the info I have about him, especially on a first date.

None so far. I don't seem to know how these kind of sites work. Maybe I'll get batter at it, but after a yr maybe not. More time will tell.

Seems to me people say one thing on their profile, but what are they really looking for?

I've met a handful. It seems though that you can usually count on the picture either being 3 years (and 80 pounds) old, or they are taken at a deceptive angle.
Now I scrutinize pictures for certain known techniques for hiding things. There has to be at least one full body shot with all limbs intact. I can appreciate that people would be shy to disclose things, but I in no way am willing to put up with being shocked by things such as those at the first meeting.
I've also found that there are 2 major groups on these site. The first includes people who think that they are going to find a perfect person online. Guess what people? The perfect ones are already married and don't need the internet. These people are too good for you, and never reply to emails. The second group you'll find are the desperate liars. I've already spoken of these people, but they will say whatever they think they have to to take things to the next step. Of course, they never get a second look after the truth is uncovered. These people are to be avoided. Those few worth meeting and pursuing a relationship with are very few and far between. And amongst them, finding one you are compatible with is near impossible.
