I've heard some horror stories on the news about this past storm that just hit TN and some of the surrounding states...I'm hoping that no-one we know got hurt...anyone have any stories to tell about it?

I was spared here..We has 3 different Tornado Warnings..Looking out when the one hit Jackson..The sky was all lit up with lightning, purple looking..Just down trees in this area. At one time the National weather service out of Memphis, had it three miles from my house..I feel very lucky

All we got here was rain, rain and more rain. The gutters run over and way back I got a River now. Wii put a sign up, 'No Fishing'.
Yes we have been lucky. I always get scared, not just the house flying to the neighbor, but I have over 50 Trees they are over 100' tall, and I am scared they fall down and hurt something.

I think this was probably the closest I've ever been..
Several rotation markers were spinning all around my house on the TV weather maps, (even zoomed in), but fortunately nothing ever actually set down in the City itself. (East of Nashville). They pretty much came in from Jackson and points SouthWest, skipped over Nashville proper to a large degree, and went on up to Sumner and Macon County and set down up there instead.
What a lot of total devastation! It's a real heartbreaker.. The worst in Tennessee since 1933, I understand.. Thats 75 years! Was it 23 or 13 who died here?

my children live in northern wilson county bordering sumner and macon, and it was close to them. i thank God they were spared and my heart goes out to the victims and their families. i was calling them and got no answer on all phones. i finally called the sherriff to check on them. i am staying in NC and could not get in touch with them. i have been thru a tornado before and it will put the fear of God in you even if you are an atheist. the one that hit a couple years ago also came close to my house. the one that killed people in gallatin and hendersonville.

Didn't know this thread was here. I am in Williamson County. The tornado that hit in Fairview was just a mile from my home. I heard the sound of what I thought was a truck in my drive.....thought my neighbor had gotten a ride home, so I went out to tell him we had warnings. No one was there. The sound I heard was the tornado ripping apart the homes just behind me. As I look down the street when the sky lit up, I could see the funnel cloud as it was on the ground. I raced back inside to take cover.....but where does one go when there is no basement? And why do so many homes here have no basements? I laid in my bathtub for what seemed like forever. I hear the sound of a train......I felt my home shake.....and I thought in a moment it will all be over. I was spared. My home was spared. But neighbors just down the road weren't so lucky. Homes that I go by daily on my way to and from work are gone now. Lives were spared that night in Williamson County and for that I am thankful. For the most part the clean up is complete....but the downed trees along the side of the road will be a constant reminder of that night in Feb. I use to love the sound of rain falling on my roof....now it worries me. Will the storm turn violent? Will it produce tornados? Tornados ripped though this state destroying lives and homes. For the most part the damage can be seen......but for some......the damage is felt within. Thanks for letting me vent here.

oh wow, Tess....what a scarey thing you went thru.
That's one reason I've always lived in the mountains....here & Colorado & Utah...no tornados in the mountains, ever! They scare the pud out of me. I feel safe nestled in the mountains...the only things I have to worry about are bears, snakes and raccoons eating my horse feed. But...that's why I have a shotgun!
Glad you & your home was spared, Tess!

Kat......I have always lived in the mid-west.....but I have always had a basement where I could go if there were tornados. Never been to the mountains.....have only seen them from afar on a train ride to AZ. years ago. Perhaps I need to think about moving once again......:)
